jennifer3
Hi A newbie to using minidisc for recording meetings. I used my minidisc to record three meetings and I successfully managed to transfer from disc to computer. I have saved my three files as wav but they files are huge 846MB, 805MB 868MB.Please could someone let me know how to get these files to our audio typist. I have tried to save to CD-R 700MB but obviously my files are too big. Any ideas gratefully received.Jennifer
greenmachine
Either a file splitter or lossless compression like flac or wavpack (usually saves ~50% without sacrificing quality) would help you:http://www.dekabyte.com/filesplitter/http://www.rarewares.org/lossless.html
The Low Volta
as it is for transcripting meetings (i.e. talking) you should simply check whether the transcripting application can handle MP3 (like the very useful and free Express Scribe) so you could convert those wav's to lower bitrate MP3 (@ 128kbps) with the free editing program audacity (see downloads section) if you also need to do some editing as well or with a simple drag'n'drop converter which can be found on the net for free wherever you wantthis will mean that all three files could easily fit one CDR and (when cut into "tracks") could even be mailable (well with 'yousendit.com' and alike at least)
Breepee2
"Lamedrop" is I think the most easy way to convert to .mp3. With speech it's safe to go as low as 64kbit and probably mono too to convert. Use google to find Lamedrop.
greenmachine
There are also lossy codecs especially designed for speech (like speex) with potentially lower filesize but mostly also sacrifice a good amount of quality.
A440
I hope you are recording in Hi-LP or Hi-SP, not PCM. Next time, upload those files to SonicStage and then, instead of converting them to wav, use HiMDRenderer (from Downloads) to convert them to mp3 files. With the wav files you have, use dbpoweramp (also in Downloads) to convert them to mp3s. They will easily be small enough to fit on CDs.
