A3000 really isn't a good unit to use for working out, the A1000 is a better choice, the A600 series should have similar sound quality to the E500s and E400s, I assume. I did listen to a demo model at the store of the A600, it sounded fine, but I prefer the larger units myself.

Ya... I was thinking about the a1000, as well but I'm a small guy and for 50 bucks less. I mgiht as well get the a608 and get something that is really small. I'll listen to the a608 first before making my final decision.

btw i comparred to HD5 and i finds the atrac quality is better on its compare to E500 series

how come?

is it of its size and better hardwares?

It is basically because HD5 has 6band equaliser that E505 doesn`t have .So IN HD5 there is more consistent LOw,Mid Highs AS COMPARED TO E505.But I didn`t find much difference in Sound quality in both the players

One thought to keep in mind is that sound quality will also vary depending on how good your headphones are and the quality of the music files you listen to. True there's no 6 band EQ but I find it sounds good enough I don't really need that-- the bass and treble adjustments are plenty for me.

That said, I'm listening to an A608 as we speak w/ some Koss KSC-75s and some LAME abs mp3s and I absolutely love it. I've not listened to any of Sony's HDD players outside the Vaio Pocket, so I can't compare to the others in the A series, but I'd imagine they're similar. I found myself listening to the E107 a couple weeks ago with 352kbps atrac3plus files w/ my Sony D66 eggo headphones and again-- just excellent sound quality. Full and detailed... I've not yet tried any such sound tests with the A608 but perhaps I can do that tonight to see if the 2 sound the same.

You're right though-- best idea might be to test it out, but unless you're insanely picky about audio quality, I think you'll be happy with the A608. I'm fairly picky on sound (don't much care for the sound of my NH1) and I love these flash players.

Ya I acutally exchanged my A3000 for the A1000. I love the features of the A3000 so i decided to get the A1000 instead of the A608.

I'm also using Shure E4c's so I am really picky about my sound.

I am happy with the A1000

i am picky actually

i am on a good earphone too

and i find its got some diff from HD5 and SOny e500 series

its feels more riched

but maybe the source of the e500 when i tested is not as high Quality

but its got some 1-2% diff as i tested on both high Quality atrac and same songs too

HD5 sound quality feels more robust and great

toobad SOny dont come out FM on its HD5 or the A series if not i dontmind to fork out cash for it too
