for my work I'm interested in Creative Commons, social software, cultural uses of ICT etc... and I stumbled on this very well kept secret... well in fact, over here it is quite known and it even won a big award recently, but I guess most people still don't really know that much about it (at least my friends didn't)

fabchannel

beware, it is a fully flash (so horribly un-usability-friendly) and pop-up requiring, but good looking dragon of a site, but the contents... oh my god the contents :o:rolleyes:

this site offers (totally free) access to an archive of 400+ live shows (taped with multiple cameras mostly) from two major Dutch concert clubs (The Paradiso and de Melkweg) some of which include:

- the arcade fire

- Death from above 1979

- Roisin Murphy

- the simple minds

- echo and the bunnymen

- ... and many many many many more...

what's even better... they also do livestreams of the shows on that night, so for example December 3rd 2005, one can watch Bloc Party live from Paradiso

what's nice is that both clubs have not seen any losses since they started this... rather more profit! so now Belgium's nicest club (the AB) is interested as well (at least for Belgian bands at first)

so, be sure to check it out!... I'm currently listening to "the Arcade Fire live @ de Melkweg 11/03/2005" at work (I hid the video, but a nice liveshow is brilliant to work with)

hope you will enjoy this... I thought it was simply too nice to keep to myself

... since seeing Dury on the Fabchannel.com, I've bought his 2 albums online. Both are excellent.

see, that's exactly why big'uns such as BMI, Sony and others have agreed to act as partners on this project and allow thier artist's shows to be archived... perhaps they will start to understand that Creative Commons and other configurations can work as well

BTW...the site seems to be down right now (I get gateway timeout errors all the time  I knew I shouldn't have advertised this till I had watched all the shows I wanted :P ) fixed
