G Protection and buffers

As with all MDs and any PCDPs out there, the data is read off the disc into a buffer, then decoded to PCM, [unless it's PCM to begin with], then sent out to the digital to analogue converter.

The data in the buffer is whatever is read off the disc - if it's a3+ or mp3, then it's compressed. If it's PCM, then it's not.

I am not sure as to the specifics of the buffer size.

According to my own unscientific tests, the NH700 uses around 8 MB [PCM ~46s / Hi-SP ~256s (=4m16s) / Hi-LP ~1024s (=17m04s)]. As soon as the buffer is ~60-70% empty, it starts reading from the disc in order to refill it.

G-protection is just the ability to find and read tracks in the time between the shock of footsteps. It can be rendered useless if vibrations persist over a period of time.

Buffers... don't know any more than what's posted. The above 2 posts suggest that it's compressed when the original data is compressed.
