I just bought a grado sr-60 and they sound great but the ear cushion is the suxxor and aren't really comfortable for long listening periods. I was wondering if i could mod them with other ear cushions. Nothing crazy and expensive, these are "only" the sr-60 so it's not worth churning out too much money. I hear some people modded theirs with sennheiser cushions but i don't know which model to pick. Can someone help?

Say bye bye to your wallet, it'll hate you all the more for visiting head-fi.

Trust me on this.

it's odd that i'm one of the few who after going there just wants a shower. kinda makes me apreciate what i have.

I must say that after going there a few times, it amazes me how much people spend on heaphones, modding their cables and so on. If I were going to get another pair of 'phones I would want to try out etymotics and those sony ones that ish got. Would be more likely to buy the ety;s though, just because I wouldnt want to suddenly not use my ath-a900's just because of a better pair of 'phones. At least if i got ety's I could use them on my portables and keep the cans for home use.

I'll just trust my ears on this. When i went to the boutique i also tried out the sr-125 but couldn't tell the difference on the spot so there's a limit to how much i'd spend for subtleties. Given it was quite loud in the shop but bah, no regrets. Besides, anything higher than the sr-80 wont come with a minijack, so no plugging it to minidisc so the hell with it.

But man, now that i got the grado, i just realise the amp of my minidisc is better than a lot of shit out there.

Just the mod for the ear cushions are enough, seems like the sennheiser 414 earpads are like 4USD, not that costy, but i can't order if from sennheiser website cause it doesn't ship to canada. I'll have to go ask around boutiques again, hate the bother.

Greg the R--

Don't save your gadget lust for Etys. Even people who love them say they have meager bass. Also the cords are fragile and that twisted-cord arrangement gives you a lot of cord noise.

Get Shure E4 (or 4c for Ipod-clone white) instead. Great sound, sturdy build. I think CNet called them the best in-ear monitors ever, and I do love mine. PM me if you want a link to get them for $178 shipped to the US. E3 is pretty darn good too, and you can find them for around $130.

As for Grados, in a quiet store I found a significant difference between the SR-80 and the SR-125, which is what I got. Just as dorky though!
