0 juli
A 12-hour battery life for audio? What? Surely not. That's little more than the 'B' series, or is it the same? Who cares, it sucks!!http://www.pocketables.net/2009/01/sony-x-series-w.html

0 juli
Well its bad then what Ipod touch has Stuge, the iPod Touch 1G had 22 hours and the 2G has 36 hours. The Sony is lagging way behind. I hope it's a misprint or something If the 12 hours is quoted with 128kbps files... then we'll be lucky to get much longer than 5 or 6 hours with anything higher than that. I wouldn't mind knowing if that figure was quoted with Wi-Fi switched on, I know it eats a lot of battery... but still, 12 hours seems laughable given that the last dap to produce such dire battery life was the 'B' series. 0 juli
Hey all, I was obsessively searching round for more info on battery life, and found THIS:The NWZ-W202 also includes a drag-and-drop transfer, 2GB of storage space, a 30-minute full charge for 12 hours of playback, and a 3-minute quick charge for 90 minutes of playback. Maybe that other website confused the 'W' series with the 'X' series? It would make much more sense if that was true. I just cannot believe that Sony would come out with a direct rival to the iPoop Touch and then give it a laughable 12 hours battery life! So I think the 'W' series has the short battery life, and the 'X' series will equal the iPoop 1G (22 hours) at the very least. Here's hoping... 0 shirleywhite
Hi all.Firstly - I like the "iPoop Touch" Juli !!! Very funny. I've been musing over another issue re our forthcoming baby. Juli used the word "netbook" earlier. I've got an EEEPC 901 and am very happy with it. I briefly considered a Toshiba NB100 - but one thing which swayed my decision was the "fans forums". For EEEPC thousands of posts with tips/tricks/hacks/mods/info re cases etc etc - I found the Tosh version - "6 posts in a month" kind of thing!! Now compare "iPoop" v our new Sony? My daughter showed me iLounge forums - thousands of posts with massive info etc. For Sony? We have about half a dozen "regulars" on here!! ( I know there are other sites........... just making a broad comparison!!) I suppose a counterarguement is that a lot of the iPoop stuff is regarding problems/glitches/unclear usage etc - how many times have we all had our Sony players freeze /lock-up ( I certainly havent!!) So - maybe I'm being a little pessimistic here? I suppose the real difference will come with the "applications" or third party stuff - the iPoop has loads of these - Sony has always made it very difficult for anyone to write/develop etc any extras functions/programs etc etc . I'm hoping that for our new baby the "wraps will be off" to an extent - with a web browser and wifi there are all kinds of exciting possibilities re (say) streaming/saving/tv/radio/email/etc etc etc. I wonder just how much functionality with be "native" and how much will be capable of being added later????? Just a thought!! Regards to all.
0 shirleywhite
http://presscentre.sony.eu/imagelibrary/de...DetailsID=10691Just noticed this "specification" download appeared today on Sony press site. Was excited that it might give more info etc? ( especially battery life?) But it seems to be for both the W ( wearable) series as well as the X series. Only thing I noticed was that X series has FM radio apparently. Did we know that??? PS although I like the typo saying "FM Turner" !!!!!Regards.
0 juli
Hey Shirley, thanks for the link to the specs. I'm just downloading it now. I knew it had an FM tuner, which is nice, because the high-end daps should come with one automatically, plenty of cheaper ones do!! As far as the iPoop's concerned, when you think of the kind of market share Apple hold, it's not surprising that the forums are full of Poop lovers/fans/enthusiasts. I think I read somewhere that Apple has around 70% of the market, which leaves only 30% spread between all the other brands! The Touch is really pretty cool, I can see why people love it, but we already know that the ZX won't have even half the capabilities of the Touch. I'd like to know what browser Sony will use, and what features they'll employ to make it fun to use. None of that really matters though, so long as the sq is excellent, the battery life is LONG, and the browser is fully functional. One thing I like about the Touch is that I can use Google mail, sync contacts, bookmarks, apps. you name it (I can sync it!) But I'd sacrifice all that for a decent Sony dap. The Touch is 'novel', but I could live without the extras if I have to. And like you mentioned, Sony daps are pretty reliable. My A808 is still going strong, and my S706 too, I don't think I've ever had an issue with any of mine.I'd still like to know the price of the 32GB though! 0 shirleywhite
Hi JuliSounds like you see SQ ( so music capability) pretty important - I can fully understand that. For me personally I'd put music lower down my priorities. I see myself using the browser a lot ( like my daughter does at the moment - rather than firing up a laptop or going upstairs to main computer den - she uses iTouch for quick email/myspace/weblookups etc while watching tv in living room) I'd see myself having quite a few videos/tv shows on my ZX ( to watch while on trains) - I'd have a few favourite music albums - and maybe games/apps/diary/podcasts etc ( as per my speculation in earlier post!) but i'll probably keep my 739 with me too for main music listening. Like you ( and all our other friends) the price point is going to be crucial .......................that's for most ordinary folk...................but for a self-confessed Sony addict .................i'll probably get one eventually at almost any price!!Regards. 0 juli
That battery-life quote also has me worried.I think it's safe to ignore the quote of 12 hours, since it clearly belongs to the 'W' series, not the 'X' series. The link Shirley provided states 12 hours for the 'W' series, and nothing for the 'X' series. I think it will have great battery life, Sony daps almost always do, and there's no reason to assume the 'X' series will be any different. It's likely there was confusion over the 'W' and the 'X' series, that's all.

0 dura
So here you all are, nice to see you again, thanks for the tip Juli.I want that X too, badly. (and a VAIO P, those look great, I love netbooks, but ok, other forum)Sorry about that 12 hours confusion, that was me on head-fi misreading the specs. But there are a few things bothering me about the X:1) does it have radio; occasionally fun/useful I think,.2) does it have lossless compressed; I mean my old A808 with its 8GB is only a little bit too small for me using 256kbs (ATRAC 3+); ~80 albums.16 GB on the max (320 kbs I think) would be enough, 32 GB would be useful if it had some lossless compressed, like FLAC or so. For PCM 32 would not be enough. so for me 32 GB is a little in between, 16 GB lossy compressed or 64 lossless uncompressed, pity Sony will probably never support something like FLAC.3) the NC; useless, I'll surely use my beloved SA6's; hate to pay for useless features4) how long is the battery-life really?5) will it still have that lovely Sony soundsignature, hopefully better then ever?Questions and doubts, but no doubt that this is gonna be another great player. HELLO. And about time too, dinner's cold you know! Okay, I can answer a couple of questions. Yes - it has a radio... umm, okay - I can answer one question! Ha ha.I bet it doesn't support any compressed lossless formats, and I reckon the battery life has to be at least 25 hours, all guesses. But I'm really sure the sound quality is going to be a huge leap from previous versions. I think the sound will be outrageously good and we'll all die of pleasure as soon we hear it! No, seriously, I have really high hopes for this one. Just the fact Sony implemented a digital amp makes me think they wanted to take a step forward with sq.Still, I'd like to know a definite price. Although I know I'll get it anyway, I'd still like to have an idea of the cost.

These digital clear audio technologies fill in the high tones that can be lost during file compression, enhance the bass, minimize distortion and maintain a consistent channel signal.Well, we already have DSEE on the older models so that's nothing new. Maybe the hiss will finally be gone??? I definitely expect it to sound better though. Maybe I'll know in 37 days!!!
0 dura
Hi Juli, thanks. I saw something like this too, but wondered how to read it; indeed, DSEE is not new, I'll probably won't be using NC because I love my Sleeks and they isolate enough, so what remains is that S-master digital amplifier. And I wondered, is this really something new and better and just old wine in new bags?Edit; 37 days, that fast? You are determined to be the first in the UK who has it, don't you? Hahaha, I'll cross my fingers for you.

0 juli
maybe because of S-master amplifier .I guess they are using cd -walkman and MD tech here .They use the same technology in my CPF-NW001 speaker cradle too, (CPF-NW001 - doesn't that just roll off the tongue???) - and when I think of how tiny this cradle is, the sound is just huge. Okay, it has a subwoofer too, but the music fills up an entire room, about 14ft x 12ft and even at loud volumes, there's no strain or distortion at all.I read that they use this S-master amp in a lot of home stereo equipment, so that's another reason I expect it to sound better. And why wouldn't they bother to use the older amps if they weren't planning to improve the sq? I don't know if I'm trying to convince myself here, or what - because I'm getting it anyway dura, yeah, I really DO plan to be the first one in the UK to get it!! 0 Anthony
I have the same speaker system, but it's the CPF-IX001 ( I think), the networked version. I'm not too convinced about the sound quality though, I know it's small and has big sound but it sounds a lot inferior to the SQ on my NWZ-A818.I'm not at all worried about battery life, this has to be misinformation. SONY excel at long battery life because they have a patented technology that gives them the edge. I can't remember what it's called but I know it is exclusive to SONY ( for now at least). I had to play around with it for a while to get the best sound, but I managed to sort it out finally. It's quite distorted if I have any effects set on the 820 so I just leave everything odd.I'm also not worried about the battery life, only about what it might cost!! 0 Anthony
Juli, I never had a problem connecting with these devices ( I have 2). I use the wired option; my house is networked. 0 dura
The price will probably be Sony-ish, which means rather high; a Ipod touch 32 Gb does around €300,- here, but this one adds NC with matching NC-phones; my bet is on an initial prices of €400,-, so around 350 BP? 0 juli
BTW, where do they get the names from....... "M-CREW"?????? - Sony, you have to dura: I sincerely hope it doesn't cost as much as £350!!! That's 30% more than a new 2G 32GB iPoop Touch. I'd be surprised if Sony thought they'd sell too many at that price. I know it has the NC feature/NC phones, but if it really wants to justify such a high price, then it should support gapless and on-the-fly playlists at the very least. I assume it's probably not going to feature anything nearly as good as Apple's Safari browser, and I suspect the applications will be really inferior as well. So it wouldn't be much of a rival to the iPoop if it costs 30% more for less features, AND no gapless and no playlists. I know this is all just guesswork, but until Sony decide to open its NWZXASWQSX-W30919384 mouth... there's nothing else we can do!stuge: Second reason can be it is easier to make and costs cheaper ,then the old ones .Whatever it is ,I'm just waiting for it as wellI don't think for a minute they'll have cut costs with this one. 0 shirleywhite
Hi all. Thanks Ascariss ( and Juli) for the link to the review. I'm loving "journal du geek"!!!!!! The pictures ( and so many ) look excellent. The size/form factor looks just about perfect to me. Slightly smaller than the iTouch - but I think having real buttons as well is a great idea. Would hope that on the video side it will play more formats ( like avi and hopefully flash ) natively - the comment regarding re-encoding worries me - but then says maybe just this prototype?? 380 euros for 32gb was about what I was expecting - for "Joe Public" I'd expect Sony to be pitching the X1000 at the iTouch pricepoint ( or slightly under?) - but for us Sony addicts ( and given that this looks like it could be the best ever!!!) they can price it almost as high as they like - I'm definitely going to have one!!! (Did I just really say that???? "Hi Sony - here's my credit card - take as much as you like"!!!!!!)Regards.
