A quick question...why can't Sonicstage only convert some mp3's to Atrac even if it's from the same album. For example I'm puting an album that I've ripped from a CD from another program and it's in mp3 format.I want to put the ripped tracks on my Hi-MD (MZ-NH1)...well it puts all the tracks but one and I keep getting a error saying that Sonicstage doesn't support the file format of the track which is strange as it's come from the same Album and it supported all the other tracks...

Anyone else have similar problems and if so how did you overcome this?

It may be a corrupt mp3 file, i sometimes get that, and i solve it by converting the mp3 to .wav then copying it to atrac. (then delete the .wav file). If you still have the original CD it will be better quality if you rip that straight to atrac in sonicstage (you can deleate the files from your hard drive after you have transfered if you want to save space).

Problem solves...I had some corrupt mp3s so I conerted them to PCM using Nero and then to Atrac. Some of the mp3s were ripped from a CD by another program so they weren't illegal or from a P2P program. The mp3s played without any problem but transfering to my Hi-MD unit was difficult.Sony need to get there head out of their arses although SonicStage3.3 is a step in the right direction. My Brother has had more problems with iTunes and his iPod and is returning his iPod for the new Sony Walkman...Anyway guys Happy New Year

if you ripped the tracks from CD and they are definitely not illegal downloads :P ... why not simply transfer them to (Hi)MD with simple burner or at least directly rip 'em to atrac/3/+ in SS3.3

I mean, if you have got the CDs and you like listening to music and not artifacts etc, why sacrificing SQ with another lossy conversion?

I don't have CDs of all the music that I own as some of them were bought on Connect and they wouldn't transfer to my Hi-MD.The problem was not with SonicStage 3.3 it was with My Windows XP and now I don't have any problems...It drove me crazy for a while and I just re-installed SonicStage with my Hi-MD plugged into my PC by accident and it just worked after that but before I fixed the problem sometimes it wouldn't transfer tracks even in Atrac...All is well now.

I'm very happy to read that all's working well right now... but still, I guess it's something to consider: if you have the music in non-lossy format, to reconvert from lossy (MP3 or the like) to atrac is really a shame, as the SQ definitely suffers...

I know it's a bit more work to rerip the CD's, but with SB (don't really know whether it works with NetMD) it's pretty quick and delivers much better results

*edit: sorry, I read your profile which mentiones a NetMD...and kinda read over 'HiMD' mentioned in your post... so if you have 2nd gen HiMD you could always just play the MP3 without conversion which would save the SQ (a bit :P ) and save a lot of work as well

PS: sorry if I'm still reading your posts wrong...I'm drinking Duvel today

Im having this exact same problem and its driving me crazy... I havent disced anything for a while but have just acquired a box of shiny new blue hi-mds

is Matt J's suggestion of converting the mp3 to wav the only way around this? (this has worked so far btw) i dont like all this converting

earlier versions of SS didnt result in this problem... my mp3s are not corrupt, it must be something within SS that thinks they are

Hi all!

Hopefully I'm writing in the right topic...

My SonicStage went mad and I have no ide why. I had SS 3.3 and suddenly it decided not to convert ANY mp3 to ATRAC. Some files can't even be transfered "as is" and they are standard 192kbit 44.1khz 16bit stereo mp3s. I upgraded to SS3.4 but nothing changed. Any time I try to convert - even if the track could be converted before - I get this message:

Sonicstage (00000908-7369)

Cannot convert the specified track.

Possible reasons may include:

-the track (files) cannot be found (noway, I've just imported them)

-Sonicstage does not support the file format of the track (it's just not possible)

-The track is copyrigh protected (it wasn't before, what could have changed?)

This makes me really upset. Who has time to always convert every mp3 to wav and then to ATRAC, transfer and then remove the wav?

Anybody experienced the same problem? I have XP Pro SP2, no hardware/software changes were made so I don't get it...
