i've owned a set of audio-technica ath-a500s for awhile now & i'm thinking of upgrading.

i'm only using them indoors & the size of the audio technica earcups is no problem to me, i like the

sound style & the portable friendly driving requiremnts. they will see most usage from my vaio pocket or audigy2 lineout.

i'm still considering going all out & buying some w1000s, mostly because they look awesome but may put that on hold a bit longer & buy on of the afore mentioned models as a stopgap. any opinions from owners or former owners would be apreciated.

I dont know what sort of output the vaio has, maybe ishi would be better at giving you an idea of the useability of a900 type phones on ur vaio pocket? I CAN listen to my a900's on my r909 but i dont like to lol. The sound is better on my deck, in the sense that it sounds 'fuller' (sound stage??). Furthermore, the more volume you add, the less bass you get, understandably.

What music styles do you like/listen to? How do you like your music(strong trebbles, bass etc)?

I wouldnt really reccomend the ath-a900's for rock music, such as blink 182, sum 41, linkin park etc. These are good when listening to:

more 'vocal' music,

music with acoustic guitar,

classical music,

music like

sade,

frank sinatra,

nikka costa'

coldplay,

enya,

gorrilaz,

faithless,

jamiroquai,

kosheen,

and so on, lol.

Basicly, riff'y type stuff doesnt go down as well.Example; I dont really like listening to AC/DC with my a900's at all.

I couldnt see the first pair u mentioned anywhere, what site?? how much?

The 900's have good bass, enough for me at least. The bass isnt overpowering, i mean it doesnt take over the sound of the music imo.
