danielbb90
Will atrac3plus 128kbs ever be avalable for Hi-MD?and how many more different bitrates are supported by Hi-MD players that are not supported by the software yet? Thanks, Edited February 3, 2006 by danielbb90
greenmachine
96, 128, 160 and 320kbps A3+ are still missing, don't know if they will ever be available for HiMD though. Maybe they'll gradually support them in the next SonicStage version(s) since they've just added support for 192 kbps in SS3.4?

raintheory
I would think HiMD recorders could play back Atrac3+ at whatever bitrates they can playback mp3's... For second generation models that is...Just a guess really on my part, but that's what I would assume.
KrazyIvan
Why would you want 128? I don't think it is worth the effort if you already have 132 available.
greenmachine
Atrac 3+ is a whole different codec, which might or might not sound better than its predecessors at the same or slightly lower bitrate. It would be worth a try at least. If it performs well, we could get rid of Atrac 3 altogether in favor of a more organized structure. dytcs
I think even in the old days, there's no much complain about LP2, so the 130k Atrac 3 maybe good enough for this bitrate. Although Atrac3+ 64kbps sounds a lot better than LP4, it doesn't necessorily mean that Atrac3+ will also make the same difference on 128kbps. Take WMA for example, 64k WMA is fine compared with 128K MP3, but you won't see 128K WMA works as good as 256K MP3.But if you use simple burner, it's not allowed to rip CD directly to Atrac3 format on a Hi-MD formatted disk.... danielbb90
err ok...Thanks,But on another topic do you think VBR Atrack3plus will be avalable? Thanks again,
dytcs
err ok...Thanks,But on another topic do you think VBR Atrack3plus will be avalable? Thanks again,It's intrestig that I was also thinking about vbr when replying the topic I think the reason why VBR is not supported is because MD is positioned as "traditional" recording equipment. To make real time encoding possible on MD recorder, ATRAC used totally different way to process audio data, which makes ATRAC codec good enough on CBR... Just my opinion only:)
Top Cat
Or, may be they've stuck to CBR because of a marketing custom - "medium has to have this specific number of minutes of capacity"

But it dousen't mean you can't have that aswell. Not for marketing but fot the users of Atrac if sony didn't just care about the money but the custemers too!
