power on via remote?

as bogon said, all remotes can stop the remote after which it powers of automatically and pressing play will power on

but no Sony remote whatsoever has a real recording button but (again :P ) you can overcome this by setting the recorder in rec/pause and switching 'hold' on... then you can release hold on the remote, press 'play/pause' and presto...you're recording

the RM-MC40ELK does however show the rec-levels (on a nice big backlit display :lol: ) so it is actually your best conpanion for stealth rec in dark situations

PS: beware that ALL LCD-remotes cause audible artifacts when recording! these aren't noticable when recording moderately loud->loud sounds, but forget using the remote for more quiet recordings: crackle and static all the way through
