Hi all. I need some advise or help on how to fix my problem. The unit I got works okay (records and plays) only when the unit is upside down! If I lay it flat on it's back, it plays for 3 to 5 songs and then all you hear is the disc spinning. Tap it on the side or back of the unit and starts reading again but after a few songs does the same thing again. This was on all my recorded discs. Same when recording. Goes to TOC Edit after 5 or so songs. I've cleaned the unit with an md lens cleaner but results are same. So I tried having the unit facing down and sometimes in vertical position and no problems whatsoever with playing all the songs or recording. Really weird. Hope someone can help out. Thanks and good day.

I have a mint R900 and I don't have the problem mentioned.

I was going to suggest maybe the gumstick battery is swollen but since it works when upside down, that may not be it. It may still be worth checking out.

The other thing is that there may be some play on the read head. That head has to be a very specific distance from the disc in order to work. If it somehow pulls away from the disc while in use it would certainly stop playing.

Maybe the transport is not aligned perfectly.

In all those cases it would need to be looked at by a tech and could be costly to repair. :(
