Hi, I know this may have been covered before, but i have been searching the forums for a while and couldnt find a definate answer.

i have heard that the volume on nh1s can be hacked to make them louder by entering the service mode, but cant find out if this is true and if it is true, i would like to know how to do it.

thanks for any help you guys mite give me

my nh1 is from the uk [european model] and im using the standard headphones.

ps sorry this might seem like a really old question to bring up, but ive had problems with my comp and havent been able to check this forum until today.

Your UK NH1 will be volume-capped. Currently you'll notice the volume doesn't increase after 24. Perform the hack and it'll increase all the way up to 30.

hi thanks for the replies. But i noticed when i enter service mode, and perform these button actions:

VOL+ | 0 Manual

FWD | 100 MT

FWD | 110 NV

FWD | 111 xxxSCC (xxx values counting up...)

FWD | 112 NoClock

FWD | 113 xxxS25 (xxx values counting up...)

my value for 113 is xxxS84

should i just press vol + or - until i reach 25? when i press vol+ the numbers increase, but am confused because in the posts you recommended me to read, somebodys value for 113 was AO as standard.

Also my value for 112 was ClokOK.

thanks for your help

just have a look at this post... the numbers can differ from model to model, but this guide should set things straight

about the NH1 being eurocapped or not... there's been quite some discussion about it: some say it wouldn't be, but the Euro region code suggests it is... just do the hack and test before and after (record the same music at 28 or 29/30 before and after the hack with all the other variables constant) and let us all know :P

Hey, Ive managed to hack the volume and can say that there is a definate increase in the volume from 24 onwards.

Id just like to say thanks to those who replied to my post. THANKS

Another question, are there any other hacks worth doing on the nh1? If so, can somebody point me in the right direction in this forum. Thanks again

I switched the region to USA/Australian 01 and played the same track again at vol 30 and there was no audiable difference whatsoever. I wasn't expecting It to work as the original volume 30 was loud enough as It was.

NH1 is already the top of the range. AFAIK, there's no more hacks to be done.

Top of the range does not always guarantee it wont be volume capped, my N910 is very volume limited. But yes it may be true that the NH1 does not need to be hacked

well, if one of you guys has the time to perform a simple measurement before and after the hack and present the results, we could actually settle this discussion once and for all (I would do it, but I haven't got an NH1)

I'm sory, but 'percieved loudness' is no ground to settle this (not in favor of one way nor the other)... a real measurement of output will...

Thanks again for the responses, but just to mention, as i said the volume did increase, but im not talking a huge increase in output. And another point could be the eq curves that people are using.

If they have maximum bass, then as the volume increases then the bass tones could be causing distortion and this could be reducing the amount of loudness that people are hearing after performing the hack

I have done this using the level meter in Total Recorder. My NH1 is definately louder after the hack.

Taking into account the reports of NH1s which do or don't sound louder, is it possible that Sony only crippled some of the European NH1s? This would seem strange to me.
