pga7602
While transfering a 3.5 hour interview into my PC my Recorder (RH-10) had a "ACCESS ERROR" message displayed on the LED screen. Seconds later, my pc had the same message and the transfer was aborted. I'm on Sonic Stage 3.4.01 I tried transfering again and the message pop up 4 times on the recorder but not on the pc. This time the transfer went perfectly. Is this a normal issue with HI-MD. I'm new to the format and don't know what to make of this. xatax
Have you used the HI-MD disc several times? MDs tend to fragment just like harddrives and become slow and not so dependable if the read/record head can't follow the tracks, this is kinda usual in old MD's (my N1 is already showing this), the problem is you can't defragment an MD without "initializing" it from time to time.Maybe an USB bus error? Was your PC busy with other tasks while transfering? Screensaver? Windows?I'm not sure what could cause that.Anyways, if the problem's gone, maybe it's for good?If the problem doesn't persists, and your data is there, it's cool. Formatting and recording after each use. Doesn't formatting a disk defrag it? If not, how do you defrag a HI-MD? Please give details on this procedure if possible. Thanks! xatax
To "initialize" a disk is to format it. So yes, an MD should defrag itself when it's initialized. (Same as "Erase Disc" option in the edit menu on your MD). So, I'm not sure what could have caused your problem. Sorry.Don't be too worried, maybe it's a once in a lifetime thing. Try splitting long recordings inserting track marks, maybe that helps. 3.5 hours as a single track is a lot, maybe too much for a realiable transfer.Hope that helps. Sony_Fan
I've used this disk at least three times already. Formatting and recording after each use. Doesn't formatting a disk defrag it? If not, how do you defrag a HI-MD? Please give details on this procedure if possible. Thanks! You can not defragment a minidisc and formating does not defragment it. It only erases the table of contents. To thoroughly format a disc and erase everything on the disc you can do one of 2 things:1.) In explorer, right click on the Hi-MD drive and select Format. Select FAT32 and Quick Format. Start the format process. You will hear the recording head move over the entire surface of the disc. Then format as usuall using SS 3.4 or the unit itself. 2.) Insert the disc in your unit. Set recording mode to PCM. Remove headphones and usb cables from the unit. Start recording. If you're using a 1GB disc, this will take 90 min. If it's a standard MD, then it will take less than 30 minutes. This will record complete silence over the entire surface of the disc. When the recording is complete, format the disc again as usuall.I've done this to all my discs, new and old, and have had no problems at all. Hope this helps.
