TOC ERR - any way to retrieve audio?

Sorry if I should have found this elsewhere, I did search. I was sure I'd seen something about TOC errors in a sticky post or something, but if I have then it doesn't seem to be there now.

I've just attempted to play a recording I made on my MZ-N710, and all that happens is that the disc flashes up with "TOC ERR". I've tried it in my old MZ-R500, and it comes up with "ERROR" in that. Is there any way to retrieve the audio from the disc, or is it lost for good?

As far as I'm aware, the disc recorded normally, and performed the TOC edit as it should. It was recorded in LP2 mode on the N710, on a brand new disc.

Any help anyone can give me would be most appreciated.

Ugh, it's done it again tonight. I'm guessing from the lack of response that it's not possible to retrieve the audio. :(

I'm a bit worried now, though - the last two times I've used the unit I've had the same error when trying to play the discs. Is it possible that something's gone wrong somewhere and there's a fault in the unit, or is it more likely to be bad luck (I removed tonight's disc from the unit before I put it back in to play it, is it possible it got jolted or something and that caused the error)? I'm really hoping it doesn't turn out there's a problem with my MD - it took me three unsuccessful attempts to actually get a unit that would record successfully from a mic in the first place.

with non-HiMD it is possible to restore the TOC... but I do not know exactly how to do it (never had NetMD or MDLP myself)...you could serach for TOC-clone/TOC-error or something alike as it is discussed before here on MDCF

but as it does this regularly I'm afraid that your recorder could be dying
