Elle J Small
Hi,Sorry if this seems a bit stupid...I have sonicstage 3.4 but it doesn't seem to allow me to upload recordings from my minidisc- MZ-N170 to my PC. My bro reckons that's cause Sony don't want to allow file sharing in that way. I have a usb cable for my MD but I don't have a digital-out socket for any other cables.I saw the WIN MD software posted here but have had problems running the trial version. Can anyone recommend any software (pref free) or other solution to my problem?I am a journalist and have hundred of mini-disc recordings that I want to both back-up and edit on my PC in Cool Edit. Thanks,Elle J ;o)
The Low Volta
the upcoming RH1 will allow USB-uploading of those MD's, but currently there is no player that will allow suchthe current HiMD models allow USB-uploading for HiMD recordings (not for the older MD modes SP/LP2/LP4/Mono)check out Marcnet's HiMD-renderer (just search these forums for it, he has a whole subsection dedicated to his software), as it has a similar function as WinMD but 1) it works (although in realtime) and 2) it is free, but if you like it...please donate some money to Marcnet
Elle J Small
Thank you so much for that- will Marcnet's HiMD-renderer work with my MZ-N170 though? x
danielbb90
Thank you so much for that- will Marcnet's HiMD-renderer work with my MZ-N170 though? xIf you have a line-in cable it can help real-time recording into the microphone port of you computer with a NetMD devise!(Like yours)

Ral-Clan
If you have a line-in cable it can help real-time recording into the microphone port of you computer with a NetMD devise!(Like yours)Don't use the MIC in on your computer (it is noisy, has a pre-amp, and is sometimes MONO). Use the LINE-IN connector on your computer's sound card.

A440
Are these recordings in SP or LP? I might be able to help, if they're SP...You have a way of uploading SP now? Or just an SP deck with optical out?
imkidd57
You have a way of uploading SP now? Or just an SP deck with optical out?I didn't say anything about "uploading", if that definition involves SonicStage. However I may be able to help by directly decoding SP to .wav for import into CoolEdit - which is not achieved via optical from a deck, nor in real-time. By uploading I just mean moving the SP data off the MD to the PC in a usable form--as you say, decoding to .wav. Do you have a way to do this that's faster than real-time? I think a lot of people here would be interested.
imkidd57
The less SonicStage in my life, the better. I'm with you on that one. I think a lot of people here would be interested. I do have a way, but it's not something that can be distributed to members - it's the EDL transfer software that decodes SP to .wav at 4x real-time. If there's sufficient interest, then it may be worthwhile offering it as a service through the forum. Whilst still considering whether I can manage it, I don't mind helping out selected members on a limited basis.
The Low Volta
the new RH1 HiMD-model will allow uploading (through USB and SS) of SP-discs and save it as wav... so you could offer it to the ones that do not get the RH1, but a number of ppl will be able to do it for themselves (best keep that in mind when quoting a price )

People may be not happy about sending valuable discs via post either. Of course all MD owners with access to a PC or Mac can transfer stuff for free via optical cable as outlined by other members above, as long as SCMS can be ignored.Remember though that the RH-1 will not allow pseudo-SP or LP2/4 transfers originally made by NetMD.
