Question

Got husband a NWE 407 to take on holiday with him and he said he is running out of battery very quickly. He charged it for nearly 5 hours and got only 2 hrs of listening. am not sure whether he is doing something wrong or is it something wrong with the battery. Will be able to check when he comes back on Monday. He was suposed to get 50 hours of play back and this is not happening. Has anybody experienced this problem before? Thanks

Basically Battery life depends upon the biterate you are using (Higher the bitrate of the music files less is the battery)

Pl tell me for how long he is having E407 with him ?

Also Does he listen to the player daily?

I takes me about 2hours to charge my e505 (when it is fully discharge ).. It runs about 35-42hours ..

Right Now It seems to me that there some problem with E407 battery

I will have to wait till he comes back to see what the problem is. He listens to his music daily unless he has charged it properly. I know when I did it in UK, it did not take long to charge but did not check how long it lasts. Thanks.

The 50hr playtime is assuming that a user uses Atrac3 105kbps compression. Higher bitrate will give less battery life.

My guess is the unit is probably not charged fully at first. 2 hours of listening is really short time, unless it is only charged via USB for a few minutes.

Oh. When the player says finished charging it's only finished Quick-charging and is probably about 80% full. That's what happens with my MZ-N10 and I think the NWA3k manual says something about that too. So if you're charging it, you might be better off leaving it connected to a power source for up to two hours or whatever the specifications of the manual dictate, because after it has finished quick-charging, the remaining 20% or so is slow charged which takes a bit longer.

E.G. my MD player charges to 80% in an hour and then the remaining 20% will take about two hours even though the player says it is charged.

I don't know if this will help to sort out the problem, but consider the following:

are you charging via USB 2? THough I don't actually get the ins and outs of it all, I gather USB2 is higher power than USB 1 [in terms of its requirements from your PC]. The E407 has a setting that you can change [under the advanced menu I think] between low and high power charging -- if you have yours on low and use a USB2 port, you *may* not be getting all of the juice that you need.

Let me say again that I am only surmising this, and don't have any information to go one other than my own intuition. Others may read this and shoot me down, but, hey, if it helps....... :o

2 hours is way too short. I get around 35-40 hours of playback on the 407 using ATRAC3 at 132kbps.

Keep the player plugged in till it says something like "FULL" or "FULLY CHARGED". If you still get low playback time, then there must be something wrong with the player. There's no way that even 360kbps mp3 files will cut the battery from 50 to 2 hours under normal conditions.

I think this would only change the time it takes to reach full charge, not affect the amount of change going into the battery.

The problem could be that the battery has not been well conditioned, is working in extreme temperatures, or something is faulty with the hardware.
