Problem: NW-A3000 - Too Slow

Question

Iv had my NWA3000 for about 2 weeks now and after giving up with CONNECT i used Sonic Stage to upload songs. Everything was just fine, worked like a dream, until this evening. I went to turn it on, and it takes and incredible amount of time to load up, not to mention even longer if i want to change songs, go to options and even shut it down.

I have no idea what brought about the problem, eveything has fine untill a few hours ago.

I updated the firmware but still no luck.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions before i call up Sony for an explanation.

Thank You in advance!

I'm just guessing here and I'm not too experienced with my NW-A1000 or Connect yet...

Maybe it gets slower (loading up Connect) etc. the more songd are on the device... in the background (artist link & network features), it must be checking your library, updating track data, updating top 100, artist link etc. and this would take longer the more data there is to go through... maybe

I take it you mean the player itself and not Connect/sonicstage?

My 3000 keeps locking up, slowing down, only responding to vollume change, randomly stopping as well :) Fact is - these players are shit and there are a LOT of bugs in both the firmware and the transfer software . . . .

Funny my 3000 has no problems, my daughters 1000 and a few guys that I work beside have had no problems yet. Personally I don't think they are shit and don't think the connect program is bad as it's made out to be.

My son has ipod nano 4 Gig and we both find ITunes is worse to use than connect, the Sony units have better sound quality. I paid £180.00 for the ipod nano and now my son wants a sony instead!!!!!!

If it's as bad as you say then get rid of it instead of moaning how bad it is and buy a mickey mouse ipod nano that scratches/marks as soon as you look at....and that’s putting a protective cover on it.

Back to the post, P3rs I have 18Gig in my 3000 and it takes a bit of time to synchronise at connect start up (roughly 2 - 3 minutes) so that might be the problem......mind you my m/c is a fairly high spec and quite fast. But as suggested get in touch with sony for advice as there may be a problem.

Hm maybe it's a database problem because you used SonicStage instead of Connect.

I use Connect and haven't experienced anything like this. When my A3000 is in idle mode (i.e. just playing the songs in the playlist) it takes some seconds to access the database, but that's all.

Last way out is propably resetting the whole database and setting up a new one..

If you'd read any of my previous comments and my frankly glowing initial review of the NW-A3000 then you'd know I don't want an iSheep. I bought Sony specifically because I'd always had Sony in the past and I knew that the sound quality on this machine would be fantastic.

However, to quote Mr Jobs, I want something 'That just works', like the iSheep does, not this heap of crap that frankly doesn't. I was on the train this morning and the back button stopped working, completely, I managed to get the currently playing song to pause, and the back button started working again. The other day I fell asleep on the train with the player playing and when I woke up at my station the entire machine was locked up except thevollume control, bizarre, Connect takes 5 minutes or more to load even on a Athlon 64 with 1.5Gb RAM, Making a paylist in Connect with a decent number of tracks (200 odd) takes literally about 45 minues.

I'm not moaning, I want to get to the bottom of it and have a player that 'just works' not something I have to visit a support forum, or download new firmware, of feck about with settings to use. It should JUST WORK.

If I could sell it and buy a Creative ( I had one for the previous 3 years, worked like a dream, dropped it onto concrete over 20 times and it never bust) I would, but sadly they won't take it back . . .
