mgillespie
The damn CD drives never appear in Connect, so I am unable to RIP anything.Connect developers need a kick up the @rse, the software test team, need a even bigger kick up the @rse for not testing this cr@p. and Sony as a company should be ashamed of themselves for tainting their reputation, and releasing rubbish like this, that they cannot support. When will this madness end? Ascariss
Hmm, interesting, both my CD-RW and CD drive show up on there, so I am not sure what is wrong on your end.perhaps check the preferences in the tools, and look for cd ripping or something like that, Or maybe try the troubleshooter in CP? if it has one.And finally I am guessing you have tried uninstalling and reinstalling? sh33p
Do you have to rip to atrac? (I'm assuming this is why you want to rip with CP) If you rip to atrac your songs can't be retrieved with GYM, at least not yet.If you're trying to rip to MP3 then just use any other ripper available, like WMP, which is rather fast, or EAC and lame, which is a bit slower but more precise. granbajo
It has happened to me a couple of times (also not recignising the walkman when I connect it)... Usually rebooting the box fixes it
Christopher
If it isn't working for you, just use a different program to rip the music off of the CD into *.wav or mp3 and then convert if desired. Obviously, this is not an ideal scenario but it seems like you have a higher frequency of problems than anyone else I've seen with this software. Guest Stuge
You can also use Sonic Stage ver3.3 to rip your cd`s & then Import those files via Connect .
mgillespie
I have managed to RIP music, but am demonstrating, that (as we all know) things are not very good in Connect land. Many a time, I have wanted to put some more music on my device, but decided I did not have the time and could not be bothered with the hassle it woul involve. NOT A GOOD THING FOR A DEVICE WHOSE ONLT FUNCTION IS TO PLAY MUSIC...The fact I cannot even copy a CD to my Walkman using the supplied software highlights how dire things really are...(PS. This is a relativly clean install of Windows, with no bad stuff installled). Reinstalling,. uninstalling and re-installing etc etc, does not fix the missing drives problem... C_player
There's a pretty good percentage of us folks that CAN rip most non-enhanced CD's successfully in Connect Player, so it isn't a "dire" problem for everyone, obviously. In most cases I've seen, the people who can't see a CD drive have something that is messing with the CD drive installed on their system. This could be lame CD burning software, CD emulation software (stuff that makes ISO's show up like real drives), or other programs that "grab" the CD drive every time a disc is inserted. As others have mentioned, SonicStage is a good way to get around the issue of an unseen CD drive. If it can see the drive, you are golden, as you can rip ATRAC files that way. But if it can't see the CD drive either, there is some more digging you'll need to do on your system.
