Karmageddon
Is this even possible?I need to get a decent stereo recording of a live show for a band I work with.I am currently on a very low budget and the show is tomorrow night.Couldn't I just buy two of these and an adapter that goes into the line in? The adapter would have to be a dual 1/8th inch stereo ins as the mics are mono out...Is this possible? A quick answer would be great so then I can buy these tonight IF it will work. It certainly is a lot cheaper and it would/should turn out to be a stereo binaural recording...
greenmachine
With the right adaptor (2x 1/8" mono to 1x 1/8" stereo) you should be able to record via mic-in in stereo. Recording a loud show via line-in would require an additional battery module to power the mics. The channels won't be matched, but that would be a minor issue i guess. Also i don't think two separate mics plus adaptor would be less expensive than a stereo/binaural mic. Karmageddon
well from what I see at the sony store and even london drugs both mono mics would cost me about 90 bux (and be actual binaural) whereas the stereo ones i saw at the sony store would be about $120. All prices in Canadian. Also would be using the RH-1.I am an engineering (music) specialist so I can always adjust the levels in the digital realm at a later date. A440
You will need either a battery module (ideal), which you are unlikely to find at a typical retail store, or an attenuator (usable)--a headphone volume control sold by Radio Shack or its Canadian equivalent, as in my avatar. Loud music through mics into Mic-in will overload the mic preamp and you will get a useless, distorted recording. It's not a matter of changing levels afterward. The distortion is not removable.Mic-->attenuator-->mic-in will prevent the mic preamp from overloading. But it will also make it easier for the mics themselves to overload, so superloud music may come out distorted anyway. However, on your timetable it is probably the best bet. Mics--2mono-to-stereo-adapter-->attenuator (with volume all the way UP-->mic-in. If you can find or build a battery module--see greenmachine's DIY thread--then it's mics--adapter--battery module--line-in. If you're an electrical engineer, get your soldering iron out and do it right: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=11254
