New MZ-RH910

Well here it is my new HiMD player, i just cant stop looking at it. So i read the manual and am ready to use it, but some questions come to me. I just want to make sure everything is perfect before i use it.

So what i wanted to know:

1-I used to own a MZR500 and stil have its AC(220V)adapter. My new MD comes with a 120V AC adapter which in my country i cant use. Should i use my old adapter or buy a new adapter to transform 220V to 120V to be able to use the adapter that comes with the player?

2-Should i do anything special the first time i charge the battery?

3-What happens if i overcharge the battery. Lets say it needs 3 hours of charging to be full but i leave it plugged for 10 hours? Will tha battery lose capacity?

4-What are clamp filters? It has one attached to the headphones' cable and a spare one. The manual says something about using them when the MD is connected to the PC. Im confused.

I know im a bit of a paranoid, but the thought of harming my MD in any way just scares the hell out of me.

1, Are you sure it's not a 110-240V universal adapter? If you want to use the R500's adapter, make sure it uses the same connector, polarity, output voltage (usually somewhere between 3-6V) and can deliver at least the same current (mA). Or you could get an universal adaptor.

2, Not at all. The battery will need a few cycles to unfold its full potential, but no special care is necessary during this period. Don't overcharge.

3, Modern chargers should be smart enough to interrupt the process automatically. If you however somehow manage to overcharge, the battery might swell and get stuck in the unit (assuming this unit uses a gumstick sized battery). Even if it doesn't deform, overchargig obviously won't be beneficial fo the battery's performance, it might loose capacity.

Ok thanx greenmachine.

So anybody knows if the the MZ-RH910 automaticaly stops charging when the battery is full? The thing is that a was planning to leave the battery charging trough the night, and thats going to take somewhere between 8-10 hours... much more than the 2.5 hours it needs.

Edit: Also, does anyobody knows if the R500's and the RH910's adaptor have the same polarity, output voltage and deliver the same current? The R500 adaptor that i own was custom made. (I took the minidisc to a guy that only by looking at the sign next to the DC In was able to make me an adaptor, it worked just fine)

The R500's adapter is 3V. Compare the small print on the two units right next to the adapter plug--where it will probably say something like DC IN 3V and <-> C <+>. The minus and plus are the polarity. You can also check the manual and see what the output of the new adapter is.

Also see if the plug from your old adapter fits the jack without forcing. If it doesn't, obviously you need a new adapter; if it does, you should still do more research but it's a good sign.

I would guess that you can leave the RH910 plugged in overnight. People generally do that with a lot of electronic devices--I always do. Sony has probably built in a safeguard. Again, look in the manual--if there is not a direct warning against leaving the unit plugged in overnight, you're probably OK.

The most challenging thing for your RH910 will be to prevent the glossy case from getting scratched. Generally minidisc units stand up well under normal use.

The clamp filters are probably unnecessary. Many people have removed them with no harm.

Hi there I too the clamp fitters away from my ehadphones and then I changed the head phones altogether. I think the clamps are for safety when attaching to a computer. But I charge my mini disc over night and it stops charging when it is charged. Note the message charging disappears. I do have a question thouugh where did you buy yours as I have one which I bought from ebay about a year ago and I am worried that I will never be able to buy one again as the mini disc is disappearing and I am devastated.
