Question

Just to let you know I put my player in for repair after all the buttons except artist link and vollume stopped working completely :( takes up to 21 days apparently so I'll just have to see if the bugger works after that.

When it come back it's going on ebay however and I'm going to get this creative player. Metal case, FM Radio, and a friend has just got one and says they are great.

In the mean time I'm back to my 3 year old creative that is still being kept together with Gaffer Tape ( ha ha ) the sound quality isn't as good but it can take being dropped - just like any mobile device should be able to do.

Bah.

That's why I bought a protection plan on mine, they just replace it, no questions asked, plus we have a repair facility here in vancouver.

the zen is nice, used one for a few hours last year, easy to use, but it felt wierd when I held it for some reason. the lcd is a worry, since if its dead not sure if creative covers that, battery life isn't what I wanted, and I have no use for a radio, nor recording function.

It's better than the ipod for sure.

And that's the most important thing to us all :D ( I was going to go for an iAudio x5L but discovered you can't browse by artist / album or genre, ah well, Creative it is)

(Oh and if anyone wants my Player - make me an offer by PM ;) )

Browsing the songs via a folder method is simple and has never caused me a single problem. My X5L is a sweetheart. Sounds great, WIDE format support, SOLID construction, about 30 hours of battery life...a nice machine indeed.

OH...bye the way. GET A REPLACMENT PLAN on particular Zen model as there has been many reports of the headphone jack becoming damaged. No matter what, don't leave your phones (earbuds) plugged in and then wrap the cord aroudn the unit. It puts stress on the headphone jack and in this particular case is BAD MOJO. Just a friendly bit of advice.

Ah but can I drop it? (seriously) it's apparent I need something resembling a tiger tank :)

Is the folder browsing seriously not a problem? I'm so used to just dropping stuff straight into the player and letting the player do the organising on the ID tags.

How do you play a particular album in order?

I don't know if you can drop it but apparently hungry dogs can eat it and it still works:

And while we're asking questions about the X5, Joe, I tried finding information about how the X5 records from radio, but I couldn't. Some specs mention that there is a radio timer but Cowon's the user manual is rather useless. Can you really set it up to record FM radio at a specified time? Can the timer be used to record from line-in?
