greenmachine Posted October 11, 2006 Report Share Posted October 11, 2006 A mono mic with a mono plug will give a signal only on the left channel, silence on the other. A mono mic with a stereo plug will send the signal to both channels.Mono mics are a good idea for close miking [mic close to the source/speaker] but a bad idea for far miking in echoey rooms. The room information [reverberations, echoes] and the main source [speaker] will get mixed to a single channel, result in a muddy mix and make it hard for the brain to decode [separate source from room information]. If you use a stereo mic and set it up like the human hearing apparatus [distance of approx. 6-8 inches], the result will appear much clearer, more lively, requires less concentration, particularly when listening with headphones. The spec is hereSpecificationDesigned for use with equipment having microphone inputs that provide 'plug-in-power', or with one of our battery modules available here for mono mics and here for stereo mics. Stereo pairs are joined at the connector.But I do not know do I still need a stereo adaptor if buying mono?And can this mic used with Rh1 without battery or preamp?Directly plug in the mic in jack of RH1,I does not have any md player,so I just guess it will work.Would this mic too sensitive and make clipping easily(but I use record lecture only,not loud sound anyway), I also assume it has more quiet and less noise,just I guess it because the provided spec!But I think careful research is necessary,therefore posted here before buying it.I also have a question,If I choose a mic for RH1,some mic has high and low sensitive option,then which type should I choose would be suitable?If with preamp should I choose High Sen. and if WITHOUT preamp should I choose Low Sen?Thanks for the patience for reading my post.
