Question

Hello fellow forum users

Can anyone give advise on the following questions? I purchased a NW-HD1 several months ago and am happy with the device.(after i found the volume controll hack) I loaded all my CDs onto the device through SS v3.3. The application was run on an XP work laptop. However I chose a removable disk for the library storage. Now however i am moving back to my homeland and have to return the work laptop and have shipped the removable disk home. I have bought a few new CDs I want to put them on my NW-HD1 so I can listen to them whilst travelling for a couple of months. I see my options as the follwing.

CAN I

1)load SS V3.3 onto my girlfriends XP laptop and choose her local drive as the library. (this device go's home with us) Then transfer the new tracks to the NW-HD1 not effecting the existing NW-HD1 database / library. If this is acheivable can the two library's (girlfriends HD and my removable HD) by converged once i get home?

2)Install MP3fm v2 onto my girlfriends machine and let it install itself on my NW-HD1 . (Can this be done without effecting the existing NW-HD1 database / library) then i just have to rip the CDs to MP3 and drop and drag from withinh MP3fm.

If this is a bit understandable all I am trying to acheive is get more music onto my NW-HD1 without effecting its existing structure as my SS library is on the other side of the world. I would like to get my new 10 or so CDs onto this device but i dont want to wipe the existing 50 or so albums that are on there now.

thanks in advance for any feedback you may have.

PS

I found a free application that will convert Atrac back to MP3s. I work just fine when i tryed it on two albums

cant comment on the quality though.

CHEERS ALL

SonicStage ver3.3 might not even allow you to use different computer .I mean to say it will not allow you to tranfer tracks from your girlfriend s laptop .

So I assume you have hd1 upgrade which plays mp3 files as well ..

I`m asking you because mp3 files manger ver2.0 .only allows you to drag & drop mp3 ..

also mp3 file mangerver2 can be used on any computer(without formating your device ).

can you elobrate your first post more :unsure: >....

I was unaware of the NW-HD1 firmware upgrade at the time of posting so I think you have answered question 2 for me. My device has not had the FW upgrade. I understand this upgrade is required for me to play MP3. I guess the upgrade puts on the firmware that wraps the mp3 in OMG /Atrac? to enable the NW-HD1 to play it

As for SS V3.3 only playing on one machine i have prevoiusly done the following when I first purchased the device.

Ran SS v1.2 on my girlfriends machine with her HD as the library source. Put albums onto my NW-HD1 and created a backup (2 albums) to a disc.

I then ran SSv 3.3 on my work device and imported the backup (after a web authenification) and have been using my work device ever since.

However I think I am stuck as my back-up was shipped overseas as well. the only way I will be able to add music to my NW-HD1 for traveling is to

1) get FW upgrade

2) the NW-HD1 allows transfers from to seperate SS library's

I have ranted on here but is this the elobaration you were after ?

Some HD1s would have had the firmware upgrade before they shipped (later models did I thought). But it would probably say on the box somewhere that it plays MP3 natively if it is one of those ones.

Otherwise yeah you'll have to send it to Sony and pay the nominal fee (in the US I think it was like $20 or something) for the upgrade. Depending on your location you will have to speak to Sony in your area regarding getting the upgrade.
