Richard
Many members have inquired about how to import MD / Hi-MD equipment from Japan. One of the most reliable etailers we have found is PriceJapan. Quite a few MDCF regulars (myself included) have successfully used them to import exclusive goods from Japan. They will in fact export just about anything within reason.Although their website has improved lately, it is not immediately apparent how the order process works. What follows is a step-by-step guide that uses an Onkyo Hi-MD deck as an example.* Many thanks to Garcou for the original ordering guideIn effect Pricejapan.com simply plays the role of intermediary (they take 5%) between Japanese retailers and the foreign consumer. There are several stages:1) You look up – thanks to the links on their site – the best price for the product using either Kakaku or Rakuten - these are search engines that search for the lowest price across all Japanese etailers. Be careful to type only the model number without the manufacturer name; eg. MD-105FX; don't worry about the Japanese characters on the site; click on the link to the cheapest seller and once on the page copy the address from the address bar of your browser. (If using kakaku you can also copy the link of the summary page listing all the sellers).2) If you are only ordering one product you can fill in the online form on the pricejapan site, but as you will also need a transformer, you must send them a mail in the same format. Here is the mail I sent to info@pricejapan.com a month ago for my last order (transformer + md-105fx) :I want to buy these two items: ONKYO MD DECK + TRAVEL INVERTER (If possible ship the 2 items in one package) :Sender: thingy@whatever.com (your e-mail address)Maker: KASHIMURAModel No: TI-352Name: XXXXXX jean-yves (your surname-firstname)City: FRANCESite Address: http://www.rakuten.co.jp/e-first/239956/19.../199576/#213655 (address of the product page you found)E-mail: thingy@whatever.com How to pay: Credit card via paypal+Sender: thingy@whatever.comMaker: ONKYOModel No: MD-105FXName: XXXXXX jean-yvesCity: FRANCESite Address: http://www.rakuten.co.jp/masanios/596973/6.../617427/#658651E-mail: thingy@whatever.comHow to pay: Credit card via paypal3) They will respond by email specifying the total price including shipping (but minus any possible customs fees payable on delivery) Here is what I recevied : Thanks for inquiry. price of Onkyo MD-105FX; 28,140 Yen at http://www.rakuten.co.jp/masanios/596973/6.../617427/#658651 TRAVEL INVERTER price; 2550 Yen (28140 Yen + 2550 Yen + 4.2 kg EMS cost 8600 Yen + our minum fee 4000 yen) x shipping insurance 1.007 x 1.033 (paypal credit card fee) = 45,031 Yen If you want it, please send 45,031 Yen to our paypal account, info@pricejapan.com (it must be Yen-noted money) Thanks again.Kanedawww.pricejapan.com Your phone No. is required for shipping, as well as shipping address. After wire, as a confirmation, please send your shipping address and phone No. by ordinary email.(state name required..
