(Urgent) Software hack to get rid of Connect/SonicStage reliance?

Question

I just bought a Sony NW-A3000 about two weeks ago and I have fallen completely in love with the player.

Now, my problem is, as everyone in posession of one of these players would know, the software. I really like SCE as a company and they usually make quality products, but I can seriously not comprehend how they managed to put together the mess that constitutes the Connect software.. I tried that for about three hours before I realised that I was fighting a losing battle.

Over to the SonicStage 3.3 software. This seems like a dream compared to Connect and I was very happy for about a week, but I am now experiencing chrashes every time I connect the a3000. Effectively; I have no way of getting music onto my player.

The solution that it seems everyone is looking for is a hack that circumvents the software supplied by Sony. I am not able to make such a hack myself, but it can't be that difficult. You can see the files lying there in one of the folders only under different names. It should be a simple hack, and I am sure someone has made one already.

Can someone please tell me where to find such a hack? Please - the world needs it!

I hope someone can help me. I would be very sad having to turn my a3000 in to the store where I bought it. A Creative Sleek is not a worthy substitute - but I have no choice. Hope to hear from you soon!

If it is that simple, it would have been done already. Till today, nobody can even hack through classic NetMD.

As I'm sure you have noticed - I am not an expert in the field, but I would be surprised if there is no such hack out there.. There are hacks that takes away the need for iTunes for the iPod if I am not mistaken. Taking into account the mess that the Sony software development team made of Connect, I find it hard to believe that they have managed to create a completely foolproof DRM system. Never say never..

This is because non-purchased songs on the iPod have always had no DRM on them. With Sony finally ditching their ludicrous method of loading you might start to get alternative loaders... but it'll probably be a while.

Hehe - yep, I'm very surprised:) Well, it looks like I'll have to hand mine back to the store. I need a drag and drop solution for loading songs. Sony is a bit too tight on DRM for my liking. Too bad as I really like the player. Anyways - thanks for the help and quick reply guys! Cheers!

The Sony was never a drag and drop player. Neither is Apple. Most players aren't. The ones that do generally use, say, Windows Media, and that displeases others.

not really, Creative did drag & drop since their Nomad time. My first mp3 player was Creative, and all the while creative until I got my NW-A1000, so I actually thought MOST players did drag n drop. :)

Yeah, I know about the non drag-n-drop and Connect being hard to use, among others things, but I still bought it because of the design and sound quality.

I you meant by drag-n-drop = USB mass storage (UMS) compliant, then only Creative flash players do this. Creative's HDD DAPs still require driver to be installed. To satisfy DRM (especially WMA DRM), less and less DAPs are UMS. Even worse, many of them are MTP compliant, which make them only compatible with winXP, and not other OS.
