Atrac3+ conversion problem

Hi everyone

I've had this problem since the day I got my HD3, and I've finally had enough!

The problem I have is that when SonicStage converts a file into Atrac3Plus (regardless of bitrate), the track split is half a second early. This happens on every single track. So at the beginning of every track, you have the final half a second of the previous song, and I'm sure you can imagine this is quite annoying.

I've included a sample so that you can hear for yourselves exactly what I mean, and what an annoyance it is.

I've had this problem with every edition of SonicStage I've tried (2.3, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 and now 3.4). I use Windows XP, but had the same problem using Windows 98, and have had the same problem on three different computers.

The early track splits occur both when copying straight from CD to atrac or when converting an existing file to atrac. However, if I copy a cd to wav using SS the track splits are correctly positioned - so I know it is neither my cd drive nor sonic stage's importing. The problem comes from the actual conversion stage.

If anyone can help me solve this problem I would be hugely greatful!

Thanks :)

Tom

I've been using SS since 1.x-3.4 and mainly ripping and encoding non-stop mixes, and I've never experienced this problem. The only problem I know is the tracks might not be gapless if I rip the tracks one by one instead of ripping the whole CD in 1 go.

Strange. I don't know why I seem to be having this problem.

I've contacted Sony about it but I'm not hopeful of any response. The people on this forum are a lot more knowledgable and helpful than those at Sony support, which is why I asked here.

I'm hopeful that's there's a simple explaination for this and I can stop worrying about it soon!

Strange! I never encountered that problem except on some protected CD's, but SS will abort the ripping with reason. I believe your problem is in ripping stage, not in conversion (encoding) stage because there are lots settings can duplicate your problem, say incorrect read sectors that greater than the CD ROM capability, incorrect offset settings, jitters, C2 - h/w error recovery capability, misleading TOC of CD - extra CD or protected CD. Unfortunately, SS came without these settings except the Smooth Reading option - it works on scratch CD's. I suggest you re-do a test on CD drive with a good audio CD again. I noticed that you do conversion with file, if encoded from Helix mp3 encoder with VBR options enabled, please get the latest one v5.1 to do ripping again.

It's definately the conversion stage.

When I copy a CD in wav format, the track splits are correctly positioned. When I then convert these wavs to atrac, they're half a second early. It's definately the conversion stage :(

I am also experiencing this problem. I noticed it since 3.3 and after upgrading to 3.4 the problem persists. The track mark is earlier than it should, so at the beginning of each track, one can hear half a second of the last song. It is not part of the ripping as I have tried importing WAV's, which sonicstage plays back correctly. When I converted them into ATRAC3PLUS and deleted the WAV's I am left with messed up tracks. It seems to happen with many if not all albums I try to encode.

At least I'm not the only person experiencing this problem, it seems your problem is identical to mine.

Surely there is a solution to it? I've no doubt it's probably quite simple in the end but I can't see what it is...

Still nobody is able to help?

Lets cover the basics:

- What are your system specs?

- What have you done to troubleshoot & solve?

- Is your ASPI drivers up to date? (probably irrelevant)

- How long ago did you purchase your unit? (think about exchange)

- Have you tried using a different model as a comparrison?

Some other questions:

- Why not just encode then upload as MP3 ? (I know quality is alittle less, but not too noticable on ears)

- FOR EVERYONE WHO SAYS THEY DONT HAVE PROBLEMS, are you all using the same model as OneMoreSolo, the HD3 ?

I still use HD3 & I`m again repeating that i have never faced such a problem.

I think it is computer & sonicstage incompatibility that`s why OneMoreSolo is having this problem.

OneMoreSolo,

Try to Use Vaio pocket transfer (Keep the setting convert files to Atrac) & see whether you are still having that problem .(Convert that cd to .wav or mp3 320kpbs )

Alos try to rip cd on some other computer using SonicStage ver3.4 ..
