Semi-Useful Md Units

well;; i (rayzray) always talks about my 27 MD Decks and etc;; more correctly;; about 21 Decks and 6 Portables,, including my 2 Hi-MD900's..

they don't all work 100%,, but,, as they die;; i give them little jobs before throwing them in "The PILE"..

Some don't record any more so,, they become "Players" but,, only INTO another Deck that records and joined either optically or analogicaly?? they become a "Pair" that have a specific job.. (like Editing).. one pair even can be wheeled into da bathroom))..

a couple act as a analog to digital converter and vice versa..

my favorite one;; just sits there on it's END and does nothing except control the "Digital Volume" going into my Computer #1 Via an (Optical/Coaxal Converter);; so,, i just sit there and watch the "wave" on my Comp screen and adjust the MD-Unit's Volume knob to keep the signal from Overdrive..

i try to record as much as possible with analog in order to save the optical blocks;; but my two main units just steal digital music off the music stations like water over a waterfall.. (legally,, of course))..

i have a Yamaha deck;; practically new that just sits near my wife's TV in case i hear and interesting sound/clip in one of her boring movies;; then just reverse a bit and like a frog eating a bug;; i lap it up into the Yamaha MD-Deck..

another unit takes fits;; and just freezes when i record with it;; it records the whole session;; then wont eject the disc;; and NONE of the buttons seem to work;; so,, have an AC-Foot-Switch that shuts it off from the AC currant and then when i put the AC back;; it shows the TOC blinking and voila;; spits out my MD disc like the octapuss in Pirates of the Caribbean II..

my Hi-MD900#2 NEVER EVER responded to the "Stop" button;; so i gave in and got a "remote";; i tell the "non-Believers" that that remote is an MP7 and more than twice the goodness of their MP3's;; they are so stupid;; they believe me..

i am sure that a lot of my other units are coming to their final days;; but,, i will give them their final jobs in life and let them go in dignity..

moral of this story;; there are more uses for what you have than what you think..

as far as "The PILE",, i lays there in da

the cellar ;;claiming cellar space;; cellar property that my wife can't have.. (i'd rather see my precious junk there than her junk junk..

Comcast tech to my wife (I wasn't there at the time) after his having to do some work in the basement and getting a look at What I'Ve Got Down There:

"This guy seriously needs a garage!"

This doesn't even include other areas of the house, which have caused my better half to state:

"This is the most mess I have ever had to live with."

And I think I'm being neater than ever, out of consideration!

A friend's wife sums up her own situation regarding said friend's (one of The Two I managed to get into MD) proclivities: "It seems like things come in but nothing ever goes out."

So, I thought, what to do with this not-working MDS-JB940? Have Sony take a shot at repair? Toss and replace? it was then that the light went on for me...get a second MXD-D400 from Japan...damn the expense...AND get the 940 repaired, after which it can replace the MDS-JE480 in the basement. Perfect. Doing it. Already got the Japanese MXD-D400, a beautiful unit...just waiting for someone to show up and ask, "What's THAT?" I hope Sony can fix the 940.

Man, I love this stuff!

yes;; that's a TRUE MD Lover;; good job!!

and,, what exactly constitutes a "Semi_Dead" unit??

1.. a unit that turns on but won't totally work??

2.. a unit that turns on and won't work at all..

3.. a unit that WON"T turn on??

4.. a unit with missing parts;: just had to throw that one in

yes,, the cable guy;; furnace repair man;; and the "Maytag" washer and dryer repair guys are all AMAZED at my "Cellar".. let alone my Purple and Pink studio..

so,, i have taken on the task of putting a masking tape tag on every unit down there;; labeling them into various "States" and a FIVE STAR rating system to which one would get repaired first if i ever get the money just to repair these things..

then,, there are the 2 or 3 units that are "Taped" together;; like::

which two of three will sacrifice themselves to "Donate" their "Parts" (not kidneys) to save the third unit..

yes;; just bring 3 units to a repair guy and say;; take the parts out of two and save one..

then;; there is the task of storing these units "vertically" without them falling down;; this pleases my wife,, as it gains more floorspace for "Her blings" like laundry detergent;; polishing fluids;; 40 year old pots and pans;; and yes;; her 40 hear old humidifier that may or may not work..

her most useful "Bling" down there that i (rayzray) could use is her 48 year old hope chest that i am trying to get my hands on to store my 800 MD discs!!!! i thing it is Mahogany or something like that..

she has all these stupid rags in there..!!
