srpruitt
I've not posted to this forum before, but I am a long user of MiniDisc and have learned much from visiting here. Thought I might give back a little.Shopping in K-Mart yesterday I saw a small emergency charger for cell phones hanging at the check-out. Having learned from this site that the RH1 uses the same plug and voltage as the Motorola Razr, I picked up the Razr charger for $19.99. It uses two AA Lithium batteries (included) to provide a charge to the cell phone, and also appears to work with the RH1 when I hooked it up. My battery indicator was at the blinking stage, and I plugged this unit in and the RH1 started charging and then shortly showed that remaining charge time was 15 minutes. I didn't have the time at that point to let it fully charge, but I'm glad to have a AA power source. It has a short jumper that goes from the jack on the battery pack to the USB port on the RH1. It worked best to plug the RH1 USB end in first, and then plug the mini plug into the battery pack. Otherwise the power wasn't always recognized as being there. If anyone sees any reason why this is not a workable solution, please let me know. For more information about this unit, visit the Energizer Energi To Go website. Be sure to spell it "energi" and not "energy" or you will end up at a New England Energy Group.Steve Pruitt
sector001
thanks for the info, so it takes the power from the AA cells? interesting..............and it's not too expensive too boot.

boojum
My take is that for US$5 or US$10 more you can get the Macally IP-A481 which is LIion, charges on the USB port or from the RH1 charger, can piggyback to the RH1 and is quite small. It carries ~10 times to juice as the built-in RH1 LIion battery. The Dutch tests showed 20 Hi-MD records before the battery was discharged. I went with the Macally for the battery type, method of recharging and how damned cool it looks with the RH1. It comes in black. Yo, baby!! http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=Macall...e&scoring=p Edited January 21, 2007 by boojum
Sparky191
The advantage of the other device is you don't need a USB port. But maybe that Macally IP-A481 would keep you going for a couple of weeks.

But as you are going to be near a computer to upload your recordings, you will be able to charge the Macally there. It also charges just fine, though slowly, through the RH1 charger. The big plus is the long battery life. It adds a factor of 8X to 10X to your battery life.

I think the idea is on holidays, or travelling a lot, were you've no access to a PC, or don't want the hassle of finding one. You just bring a bunch of disks and a few AA's. Mind you unless you are going somewhere very remote, you'd probably survive with a AC>USB charger and a travel plug. The other advantage is if you simply forget to charge the HiMD or IP-A481 with the AA charger you can just run into a shop and have instant power. (The reverse is not true however -- the Sony Charger won't charge the RAZR phone).Incidentally the Car charger unit also works for the RH1 as well as the RAZR phone. Some other Motorola phone chargers might work --look for the "Mini-USB' plug on the end.The Phone charger is smaller and lighter than the RH1 charger so IMO it's a no-braner just to take that charger if you have the RAZR type phone.Cheers-K
Sparky191
Most people have a Mobile Phone these days...Yes but not a V3? I liked my V3 but I replaced it with a sony K750i and it also charges off USB, but it has its own properitary cable. (slow clap for Sony) I used to have Zen Micro and it had a USB AC charger with it and you can buy a travel plug for that. Don't think I tried the V3 on that though. Generally I turn my mobiles off on holidays, only turning it on to get texts etc. They usually last a few weeks Still think a battery charger is handy.
