drspy
To my knowledge the only lossless format sonicstage currently supports are lossless wma files. If I convert all my cds which are in ape or flac files into wma lossless and import the wma files into sonicstage and then put them over to the hi md unit, is the conversion lossless? or are the wma lossless files once imported into sonicstage not true lossless files? I know there is quality loss when they are converted to attrac format from lossless but what I would like to do is import all my CDs to sonicstage as lossless wma files and then have them converted to attrac format to play on the hi md.Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this.I would appreciate any help because I am not experienced with how sonictstage works. The Low Volta
WMA-lossless will work and will be true lossless, but CD's will not longer be gapless when transfered to MD which is the main reason why I myself didn't feel like using WMA-losslessatrac has a lossless version as well for PC-playback (the lossless file is bitrate specific as tthe file contains a bitrate specific part for fast transfer to MD as well)for my lossless library (which will be rebuilt when I finally am installed in my new home), I'm probably going use flac CD-images + cuesheet and if I need them on MD I'll mount them as a virtual CD -> put them on MD through SimpleBurner (but other ideas are welcome as well)

I haven't been able to have gapless playback with any format from sonicstage to the hi md so I just havent woried about it, it is annoying though.I prefer flac personally and have all my CDs ripped as flac with detailed information in the tags and backed up to DVD disc. You can rip all the tracks to flac and still maintain gapless playback without making it just one file and using a cuesheet, its easier. I've converted the files to other lossless types aswell as ogg and its still gapless in the right audio players like foobar.
Sparky191
Would it not be easier to use a player that supports FLAC directly?

drspy
Would it not be easier to use a player that supports FLAC directly?Yes it would be easier! Which is why I use foobar and other programs for playing on the computer, good software that supports all formats. What I am talking about is wma the only/best lossless format that can be imported into sonicstage for conversion to attrac for playing on himd. I would not use sonicstage as a player on the computer, its just there to manage my hi md.

drspy
I meant hardware player like a Cowon X5 etc.Sorry, I didn't realise. That would be easier too, but I would like to get some use out of the hi-md because ive only had it a few months, but I did mainly get it for recording. I will get a proper player like the one you suggested one of these days though.
