RoGeR Posted February 25, 2007 Report Share Posted February 25, 2007 Hey guys, I've just downloaded SS4.2 and starting to use it with my RH10 - works like a gem I must say! I've also just started using it with my old MDLP Net-MD mini-hifi...the CMT-M333NT.Thing is, I can't seem to find the 105kbps LP2 bitrate to encode with!! What ever happened to it- did Sony drop it!? I did a search on the SS Help and it is stated there that there should be option, but when I checked with the transfer settings, there're only 2 options, LP2 and LP4. And checking with the MD in my RH10, its definitely 132kbps.I'm a huge fan of 105kbps as I find the sound quality as excellent as 132, but being able to pack as much as 3 albums into an 80min MD. Richard Posted February 25, 2007 Report Share Posted February 25, 2007 I believe CD ripping at 105 was dropped from SS somewhere around 3.4 (or maybe before that). It works, but is almost useless.But transferring 105 kbps files to Hi-MD is a different story. They transfer "as is", are not padded, and are not DRMed. You can get 6 hours 10 minutes of 105 kpbs music on a legacy 80-minute MD disc in Hi-MD mode. Of course, the disc will not be playable on non-Hi-MD devices.As for SS42, it is not worth going back to SS34. SS42 is more stable and faster. It works, but is almost useless.Hmm... ignoring the DRM issues and HiMD overall, I'm very sure that 105kbps was indeed smaller in size to 132, and had a slight tingy effect upon listen, in MDLP players. Small price to pay for extra space. I could fit in about 3 hour albums into a single 80min MD in 105, but only 2 hours in 132! I dont get what you mean by padded.In HiMD, I only ever use 132kbs anyway... was hoping of just reusing 105 for my non HiMD equipment! When I started the "105 & 66" thread, I was sure that it does reconvert. Not sure now...In any case, there is no way to download 105 "as is" to your NetMD unit using SS.
