SSCP and MZ-RH1 transfer issues

Hi there,

Any help will be much appreciated.

Late last year I tried plugging my MZ-RH1 in to my computer and it wouldn't read the device. I saw on the product support site that there was some security issue with Microsoft and downloaded and installed the update and all was working fine.

Beginning in January I plugged the MD recorder into the computer to transfer some tracks and it wouldn't read again. I upgraded to the latest version of SS - 4.2 and it seemed to work.

This is when the weirdness began. Suddenly neither my computer nor SS would recognize the MD player if I pluged it in with a normal MD in it. If I removed the MD and plugged it in they would both recognize the player and would continue to recognize it if I put a Hi-MD into it as well. But the moment I inserted an old MD SS would not be able to find the recorder and the computer would disconnect it.

At this point I should say that the OS I'm using is XP(x64) and I'm running all the latest updates. I've upgraded to SS4.3 as well but still have the same problem.

If I plug the recorder into the computer with a Hi-MD in it there's no problem. It refuses to recognize the device only when there's a normal MD in it.

Strangely, if I plug the MD recorder into any other machine running the normal XP OS it reads both formats (MD and Hi-MD) fine.

This seems to be an issue occuring only in XP (x64). I tried calling Sony in early January and explained the issue in great details to the chap on the phone. Even though he took my details down and promised a callback I have yet to hear from them. and this was in early January.

Since I use both formats, and it all worked seamlessly before December, I'm wondering what I can do to resolve the issue.

Any help/ideas/suggestions ould be much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,

Anshuman.
