frankz00
They didn't learn when Apple ate their lunch with the iPod and they continued to screw it up after the fact! Making every MD device recordable would have definitely help Sony regain dominance in the market that they practically invented (portable music). It frustrates me to have to hunt for MD devices that should be ruling the world. Ah well....
Superbaldguy
There have always been MiniDisc recorders and MiniDisc players and they have co-existed very well. Not sure what your gripe is, iPods don't record..........

Superbaldguy
If by "recording" you mean the iPod integrates with a jukebox program, yes they all do. MDR's are true recording devices since they can pick up signals from anywhere, no USB cable required. (assuming the unit has a mic input)

(assuming the unit has a mic input)You have no Idea what your talking about , "nd gen iPod nano and iPod video have Stereo mic attachments available thru Belkin and several other vendors that allow them to do 16 bit 44.1 stero WAV recording thru both Line in and stereo mic in as well as the Mic built into the attachment . I am a Hater of iPods , an Owner of Macintosh , an seek any other way to do something that iPod does. http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/italk/ http://www.nextag.com/ipod-microphone/search-html http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage...oduct_Id=169368 http://www.xtrememac.com/ http://www.cybersoc.com/2007/01/micromemo_recor.html http://www.macnewsworld.com/story/55771.html http://www.slipperybrick.com/2007/01/ipod-nano-microphone/ A general iPod Mic search will yield over 4 million results , in 2.7 seconds , which means that you are a few seconds off the beat eh? I had to research high and low to find the what I needed for the right price. Today you cannot walk into a store and get a MiniDisc recorder, period! Sony is my favorite gadget company and it shocks me that they don't push this technology here and there are models that you have to do somersaults to get anything on them. That is nuts! Especially when the things are so damn good. I love Sony but they do dumb things like this alot. And considering that Apple did eat their lunch they could have gained a competitive advantage by adding features like making all models recordable period.. piracy be damned. That was Apple's attitude and they won. I wish Sony had the same balls.I like eBay and all but availability of multiple models in multiple places is alot nicer. Use the net to get the Info , and print out what you want . Take that to a Shop and ask them to order it . Practically none of them Stock it , but they will get it.Pay no attention to SUper Bald guy , it is clear that the sun has gotten to his head . tekdroid
Sony is my favorite gadget company and it shocks me that they don't push this technology here and there are models that you have to do somersaults to get anything on them. What are you referring to, specifically, when you say that? And considering that Apple did eat their lunch they could have gained a competitive advantage by adding features like making all models recordable period.. piracy be damned. That was Apple's attitude and they won. I wish Sony had the same balls. When you say record, what do you mean, exactly? MIC input? Or something else? If so, how will doing that give them a competitive advantage? Sony have done many stupid things with regards to software usability & digital rights restrictions and they are still stuck with sub-par, horrid usability (IMO), but making devices without a MIC input is not one of those bad decisions, IMO. Simply put, not all users require a mic input, so they are simply catering to that. The only current Hi-MD unit now has mic input, so I don't understand the problem. And the comparison with iPods is confusing to me given that iPods are out-of-the-box simply computer transfer devices.
Superbaldguy
Interesting - the iPod can record if you get the right accessory, but it doesn't have a default record mode. Funny that Apple doesn't seem to promote that function, seems useful for note-taking. Anyway, I share your gripes about not being able to buy a MiniDisc unit except via on-line. In due time, unless Sony keeps the production going on the RH1, this will all come to an end, sadly.
