Ok So I got in the MD game a long time ago and have the MDS-J320 ???Home deck that works great. Well at the time it came with a MZ-E40 player. Well the portable player went bad, so i returned to best buy and they gave me a Sharp MD-MT15!! Well, Finally I want to use my MD again, but see that my Sharp unit will not read a disc whatsoever. From new discs, to previously burned, to even a Actaul store bought recorded MD.

So Now I have 40 some blank regular md's and a home deck. i do have a 60GB photo ipod now and have all my music on my HDD, but I cant use my ipod while cutting grass - skips too much. So now im back in the market for a cheaper used model.

But I was always under the impression that the Net MD can have music transfered from my HDD in mp3 format via usb cable to a Net MD player. If this is the case, will my standard Memorex MD 74 discs be able to hold the mp3 songs if i have a Net MD player/recoerder? I am guessing I will have to re-format the discs for certain and that they will not work on my home recoerder/player - but I am willing to take that...

My last resort is to buy a used MZe40 that i can find cheap on ebay, and bring my home recorder down to my pc and record 1-1 music files....

Also, i will be hecking the classifieds - but if anyone is looking to sell for around the 20-30 price mark - e-mail me.. .nokiafanatic@tds.net

Thanks to those that can answer my questions!!!!

Nobody can help me???? how about a MZ-NE410?? will that tranfer mp3's to standard memorex 74 mn discs???

MD units don't play .mp3s. They play ATRAC files. You install SonicStage (free, get the latest version from Downloads here) and it works by converting mp3 to ATRAC files (called .oma or .omg). So if you have mp3s of 128 kbps or below, they are going to sound pretty poor after being compressed again to ATRAC.

So yes, you can get a NetMD unit (begins MZ-N**) and use SonicStage to convert and transfer mp3s. They are all at least two years old now, so if you get a used one, take a good look at it. On eBay, look at the picture for worn-off paint on buttons or around wheels to get an idea of how beat-up the unit is.

But if I were you, and only looking for a player, I would look for the MZ-NH600D which is a Hi-MD and can sometimes be found for $50-$80 on eBay. It will be newer than the NetMD models you are looking at, it will play all your old discs and it will also, if you ever want to, play newer Hi-MD discs that hold 1GB.

Do not DO NOT install the software that comes with any NetMD unit. SonicStage has been much improved through the years. Any version before 3.4 is more trouble than it is worth.

OK so i purchased and recieved a MX-N420D - its a little tattered but works....kinda. But the problem i am having is that I transfer my music in mp3 format via sonic stage 4.3. The minidisc states that the song is in there, so i doisconnect. then i hit play, and it indicates that it starts playing, but no sound, then pauses, then plays, etc etc. Then if i eject the disk and put it back in, it claims that it is a blank disc...What am i doing wrong??

The MD player has a Play head and a Record head. It's possible that the Record head is wearing out or worn out, even if the Play head works.

Try transferring something to the unit in SP (adjust SonicStage settings in Tools/Options/Transfer/NetMD/Transfer Settings) and see if it will play back in your MD deck. If that disc also comes up blank, you may have just gotten a worn-out unit, and you should communicate with the person who sold it to you.
