bobzilli
After repeatedly tries, I cannot get the Hi Md function on MAC to successfully record. That is, it records. I stop the disc and eject it as it asks but when I try to play it back, it says ''cannot play" . On a positive note, on my wifes PC the simple burner works great and i can get great quality HI MD PCM recordings, whcih is why I wanted the unit to begin with. If only I could get the MAC to work with WAV (it does work with MP3). Any thoughts?

Any thoughts?Your a little unclear , I am on a Mac so I will try to help .Step by step Ditch the term "Record" that is reserved for the act of having a Mic or a seperate device hooked to the Line / Mic input and actual audio going to the disc. Transfer = Upload/Download, use the correct terms it will be easier to help . Upload = From the MD -> to the computer. Download= From the Computer-> to the MD Are you using version 2.0? I posted a PDF for you on another post . Because the Mac is dealing with RAW WAV files , it represents a copyright infrigment possibilty. so there will be some restrictions as to what you can do . Anything imported TO the Mac is imported as a WAV file for the purpose of being able to go straight to an audio editor, or program for dealing with audio. But those same files cannot be retransfered to the MD ( really stupid I know ) Files transfered to the MD from the Mac , cannot be retransfered back to the Mac ( Again REALLY FRIGGIN STUPID I know) So what I need to know is What kind of file are you trying to transfer( I will duplicate the process) and how you are transfering it. bobzilli
First off , sorry for the loose terminology and second, thanks for your help.Ok,, here is what I have done.I have the new software 2.0I am trying to download WAV files from the mac to the RH-1 HiMD unit.First, I creat Wav files by uploading a CD in WAV mode to the computerThen I attach teh Rh-1 to the computer. The HD MUSIC TRANSFER screen appear and I drag the WAV files (no the ITunes file) to the HD MUSIC TRANSFER and it seems to be ok. When done it asks that I stop the unit and eject the disc, which I do. After reinserting the disc, its does something to the files and then stops. I the attempt to play the disc and it reads "cannot play"This process works fine with MP3 files I should add.

Eject it from the system ( it cuts the USB connection and saves the file at the same time. You misunderstood the eject command, You can also Control klik the disc image on the desktop a window of choices pops up including "Eject This Disc"Try that and get back to meAgain DO NOT REMOVE the MD from the player
bobzilli
Again, thanks for your help. I tried your instructions to little avail. The Hi Md Transfer icon disappears when it starts the download and the icon on finder (in apps) does not offer a choice of eject. I did try to close the Hi Md transfer program and a "no name" drive showed up, I control clicked it and it offered eject, which i did but that didnt work either. raintheory
are you recording the WAV's themselves as 16bit 44.1kHz?
bobzilli
are you recording the WAV's themselves as 16bit 44.1kHz?Yes I am, is that the problem?
raintheory
Yes I am, is that the problem?Shouldn't be...Hi-MD can only read WAV/PCM @ 16bit 44.1kHz. Some programs default to 24bit, or 48kHz. Anything other than the 16/44.1 won't play, and will probably give an error like the one you are seeing/

Strungup
Can .wav audio files transfered from Mac to Hi-MD via Hi-MD Music Transfer for Mac Ver. 2.0 be uploaded to a PC afterwards? I know it isn't possible to upload back to the Mac as it is specified in the operating instructions of the Hi-MD Music Transfer for Mac Ver. 2.0 software, but maybe that option is possible...Or am I better off just copying the .wav audio files straight into the Hi-MD directory in Finder?Just for safety , Burn the .wav files to CD as a Data CD , and there is a Menu item To Burn a Windows freindly disc . then copy the .wavs to the PC from the CD . I think when you copy the .wav to the MD it will get DRM'd or SCMS'd but if you burn a Data disc instead of an Audio Disc on CD you can copy to the PCthat way clean , You have to do that in the Recording Industry , so much stuff is mixed system Mac/PC, Digital Performer> Protools> over to someones PC running Cubase , then over to someone else who has Logic Pro an Acid , then back to the Digital Performe guy with his MOTU setup . it all gets burned to DVD as data , or MO drives . The MD Transfer wil transfer the wavs , but I havent tried going to someone elses Comp with it afterwards , But I could see it being a prob ,especially with Sony

raintheory
can't I just paste the .wav data in the Hi-MD directory, i.e. not playable on unit, but accessible in Windows Explorer? I have successfully transferred other data (.pdf, .jpg) from PC to Mac and vice versa that way, it should work similarly with .wav data... The Hi-MD is then used as a USB mass storage device.Either way works, I tried both the explorer way and the Hi-MD Music Transfer way. Strungup
Now that IS good news thanks for the precious info, RT!Also here is a Cool item , I dont know if it is still available , but for Data transfer , it appears that Sony actually thought of HIMD as a Data medium http://www.ecat.sony.co.jp/products/catalog/DS-HMD1.pdf
