Levski
Dear all on hereJust joined this forum, it looks great. I wonder if any of you guys can help me?This week my Sony NetMD has stopped recording from the PC down the USB cable. Everything else works just fine on it. But when I try to transfer, the device makes all the usual clicks and whirrs, but then after about 10 seconds I get an error message 'Cannot transfer tracks'. Weirdly, I can still edit the Table of Contents on a disk this way, but I can't initialize a disk.I've tried again on my laptop, but I get exactly the same error message. Can anyone help? I'm really annoyed about this because I love the MD format and I want to stick with it. I quite like Sonic Stage as well - at least until now!Any help would be greatly appreciated. Yours, Levski

raintheory
What version of SonicStage are you using?
Levski
* Moved to Software DiscussionHi - sorry for posting in the wrong forum! I am running SonicStage 4.3. I even tried uninstalling and running the ancient 1.5 and 2.0 and got exactly the same problem. I have put 4.3 back onto my system now, but no joy.I can't understand what it is doing. Although I must say it 'feels' like a software fault, because nothing else is wrong with my MZ-NF810 - everything else works perfectly on it.Any help would be gratefully received!PC specs are reasonable: 1.6Ghz, XP Service Pack 2 and all updates, 1 Gig RAM (but crap sound card). I'm totally up to date and virus free.
Levski
Just tried it on my wife's laptop - got the same thing. It's bizarre: all the tracks are displayed perfectly, and you can even play them off the computer menu. But when I tried to change anything, eg delete a track it starts to do it but then gives up, giving the error message: "Cannot authenticate device or media", and then it 'de-recognises' the MD. You have to close SonicStage, re-open Sonic Stage, then pop the MD out then back in for it to 're-recognise'.What do you think the problem is? raintheory
Do you have a second USB cable that you could try? If the cable is wearing out, the connection could be intermittent which may cause the problems...The cable is a fairly common one, used for some digital cameras and such, so you should be able to pick one up for fairly cheap if need be.Also, check that the write protect tab isn't partially open on the disc.Have you tried different discs as well? Levski
Hi - thanks for the suggestions.I've tried 3 different USB cables - same result each time. I've now noticed that the LCD window on the player says ERROR when I try to delete or transfer tracks. However, I can edit the TOC no problem. In fact, that's all it lets me do.The write-protect tab was fully off, and I've tried numerous disks. I'm begining to think the unit is broken, as I can't think of any other software issues. Any other ideas before I consider giving up and upgrading to an RH-1, and keep this player as a back-up field recorder?!
