I'm trying to find the best price I can for the Sony RH1 OR M200 minidisc player/recorder yet all the people I talk to over the phone say this is a discontinued item and Sony no longer makes them.

So...all the RH1's and M200's I see on web sites are the end of the MD run?

No official announcement has ever come from Sony, but it looks like the M200 is the last kick at the can. MiniDisc Canada still has the RH1.

That I did not know! That ain't good. So Sony is going to leave us all high and dry with this wonderful technology. Sort of like being all dressed up with no place to go.

I checked out minidisc Canada. Their selling the RH1 for $310 US dollars plus whatever the shipping is (probably around $25). Minidisco is selling the M200 (RH1 with the mic) for $350 with a 20 dollar discount including tax and shipping. $330.00 is not a bad price for the M200.

The RH1 was likely the final little "nod" from Sony to their MD devotees, as the RH1/M200 certainly were not released to mainstream attention or interest. At least that's how I look at it. By the time the RH1 was released in '06, the halycon days of MD in places like the US or Europe had long since past. Even my friends from Asian countries like Japan say MD is on its way out there as well. If it weren't for us devotees, there might not have been an RH1 to begin with :)

I am dedicating the remainder of my next two paychecks (9/14 and 9/28), after I pay all of my bills, to getting another RH1, this time from MiniDisc Canada, I do have a direct link to heir site.

I have even better mics (I own an ECM-MS907/908) than the ECM-DS70P that comes with the M200, and also as a backup in case my current RH1 ever goes out on me.

So I take it Sony is not going to update this at all with a new player. Most disappointing! What are we all to do a few years from now when our current units start to fail. Could there be a collective effort with all minidisc fans to petition Sony to continue production? If we had an email addy of the powers that be, perhaps we could deluge Sony with emails.

For all the Legacy MD people , it would mean Getting a Really big Hardrive connect to the Computer and Record via Line in Evry Single Disc , into the Hard drive and store them in a Format that is universal .

And for HiMD people Upload everything and do the same . so that when the units die , you still have the files and can transfer to whatever is available then .

But by that time , we may have direct mental connection with the Mainframes , so we just carry it around in our heads !!!!!! ( How do we Defrag when we overload ??????)
