jernikfra
I just noticed that Sony Japan just posted a new pair of top of the line earphones, a new pair of headphones and some fancy active speakers. The earphones have a large 16mm driver facing sideways and come with 7 different sizes of earbuds and cost 36,750 Yen! They make the MDREX90's look pretty basic. The Headphones appear to have some sort of reflective design to give a more open sound, and are 55,650 Yen.They both look pretty unusual. The speakers look very cool and have a long tube to enhance bass.I wish I could read Japanese. They have interviews with the designers.Perhaps a multilingual member could post a brief explanation of what they are all about. Here are the links:

Superbaldguy
So, are the EX700SL's straighter than the EX90's? I found the angled stem on the EX90's unbearably uncomfortable.
BIGHMW
I tried finding them (MDR-EX700SL) on eBay, no such luck, any idea on price (in USD) or a release date, these look more like they are geared towards the audiophile that wants to take his/her portable audio to the next level. I myself own a pair of EX90SL, and I never thought they would ever be "bested" by another Sony unit, but I guess technology has only one place to go....up. OUCH!!!http://www.atraclife.com/2007/09/03/mdr-ex700sl/#more-255Special thanks to Ishii (ARIGATO!!!) for getting the scoop on these beauties!!!I just sure hope I spelled "arigato" right Ishii. Right now I am enjoying some Creedence Clearwater Revival on my 1970s Hi-MD called "Bell Bottom Glory" though my MDR-EX90SL and RM-MC40ELK and my MZ-NH700 as I write this. BIGHMW
Looking carefully at the design of the MDR-EX700SL units, they kind of look like a crossover of the MDR-A34 headphones (vertical in-the-ear 16mm driver design) with the MDR-EX71 IEM's, a very interesting combination to say the least, the 16mm drivers put out a whopping 108 dB at only 16 ohms (like the A34 units do) with the inner ear design (like the EX71 units have) that the N.U.D.E EX Monitor Series are legendary for, but as far as the $317.00 USD price tag for these is concerned, OUCH!They make the price tag of the EX90LP/SL ($90.00 USD) seem more like a bargain, with an even more affordable version available (MDR-EX85LP/SL at $45.00 USD) at that. I hope that Sony will make a similar bargain-priced version of the EX700SL available to all of us who don't have the mass $$$ for this seemingly fantastically-designed unit.
