There's way more than one question.

As they asked over at ATRAClife, is the "update" going to kill ATRAC compatibility, so that all .oma or .omg files have to be reformatted with additional quality loss?

Will Sony give its many Connect Store customers an easier way to use the files they bought than burn-and-reconvert, also with quality loss? (on files that weren't that hi-fi to begin with....)

Since ATRAC encryption will be obsolete, will Sony finally release a way to unencrypt the .hma files on our minidiscs?

Napster files have DRM. Windows Media files can be DRM'd or not. This looks to me like Sony isn't giving up on encryption, just switching formats.

Yeah how would this work for The RH1 ? , ..... Seems that if the Update some but not others , anything that has firmware updat abilty , that isnt taken care of , then a bit of bias , and confusion is going to result .

Just like the fact that Some HiMD is MP3 capable and others arent .

The HiMD player only models arent MP3 capable but the Recorders of three or four types are . What is the point ? If you can transfer MP3 to your HiMD but cant use it in the Player , that is what they Need to fix. Although I have mostly MD's , I also have abou 18 GB of MP3's of educational material and music , samples , etc , I can play them in the RH1 , but cant play them in the Player ...........

See , that right there is the only reason I would want an MP3 player , but then I have to carry two players , most of my music is on MD .

And to another comment about Sony Owing us . I went to Sony Global , and looked at the History , the Barely even mention MD , in fact they only mentioned two PLAYER models , no mention of the FIRST or The BEST , they didnt even Mention a recorder . So obviously MD leaves a bad taste in thier mouth in some way , that they just will not speak .
