ozpeter
http://bssc.sel.sony.com/BroadcastandBusin...83&id=90227 is the link. This does now seem to be the new Sony trend.Maybe the RH-2 will be one of these without the built-in mics. Strungup
Nice looking peice of gear , and the price point says that Sony is thinking a little . For 599 List (which means 499 in the store . ) I think I will have to get it when it is available ,
KJ_Palmer
Looks like an excellent recorder - perhaps the successor to Minidisc? I'll probably also be sorely tempted to pick one up, when funds allow...
raintheory
I don't like the built-in mics, as they don't leave much room for experimentation with mic placement. Other than that it looks pretty nice.24bit/96kHz... Drag & Drop WAV... AA Batteries... 4GB Internal w/Memory slot... I think these will actually be quite nice when they reach a decent price range. SONY mic input W/plugin power .......Not ZOOM , Not Noisy , it will be the preamp that is in the RH1 most likely ,if not maybe a little nicer . Just on that alone ....I want it . Sony might actually be going in the right direction, it's been a long time since I could say that. I'd like to see a cheaper one w/o built-in mics as well.. "RH2" as ozpeter says. While we're at it why not make it FLAC instead of WAV... I'd also prefer SD instead of Memory Stick Pro.. Not that lack of those would be a dealbreaker.. but I'd definitely sell some gear to get one, rather than waiting till I could afford it. tekdroid
what's funny is their brochure mentions:A low signal-to-noise ratio provides virtually noise-free recording quality.I assume they will correct this soon Har.http://bssc.sel.sony.com/BroadcastandBusin...res/pcm-d50.pdf

vore
Approx 3" X 6" X 1 1/2" this thing is almost a brick and 4 (FOUR) AA batteries? The elegance is gone!

The elegance is gone! They'll come around... MiniDisc recorders were bricks at one time too: from my post here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=16150--I do agree though, if a Hi-MD can run off of 1 AA, you'd think... The built-in mics probably account for most of the bulk actually. As I said before, as well as others: I'd like to see one w/o built-in mics.
