When are new CD models coming out in USA?

Question

Are they due out yet or we have to wait until spring or so? When do the new CD models for a new year come out in the US? Since December of 2005, I been seeing some new models such as the D-NE830 and D-NE730 on the Sony Japan site that may or may not make it to the US (well, the previous 700- and 800-level models for the last few years didn't, anyway). Anyone have any clues yet on the full lineup besides D-NE830, D-NE730, D-NE330 (recently released in the UK and some on Head-Fi said they can get it in their local Wal-Marts now), and D-CJ002 (or whatever that new '002 model is that looks like the current '001 but wiht a round remote)? Thanks...

So far US only got the NE330, and it is not even listed in Sonystyle USA. I doubt US will get the NE830/NE730, since that is the case last year.

It is surprising to me that the sucky CJ001 is selling at all. I've seen a few people carrying these cheap plastic crap. This fact made it even less likely for any better PCDP models to come into the US.

I wouldn't be surprised if abroad, them cheap PoS plastic stuff like D-CJ001 aren't even available. Or if they are, they're probably _given_ away as freebies. LOL D-NE005 is another piece of junk not worth even 20 USD, let alone the 42 USD I paid for it. The D-NE30, '930, '830, and '730, plus a unit or two with a screen on the main unit, should be the next models in Sony's US line-up, but I bet they're gonna clobber it again below the '930 line with all cheap plastic ones with 'blind' (screenless) remotes.

Thsi really amazes me  that these models are available in India but not in US
Oh India got D-NE30 and '930? Or at least the D-NE730 and '830?

I believe the last D-NE8XX that made it to these shores were the 1st Gen D-NE810/CKs. Outside of that particular release, the US did not see the D-NE8xx/7xx series. To make things more complicated, the D-NE9 did not receive a US release either. Nonetheless, the 9s subsequently became the 2nd flagship model (i.e. not top tier).

US, when it gets PCDPs, has received D-NE1/1X/2X, D-NE9XX, D-NE5XX, and D-NE3XX, which invariably gets labeled with lifestyle brands such as PSYC and LIV. The Japanese/Tourist and maybe European Market gets the 8/7s along with other numbers.

So, I don't expect the 830 and 730 to be released in to the US market. However, I do expect, if they are released, D-NE30 and 930 to hit these shores if past is any indicator of things to come.

Yes. I heard that the European market gets the D-NE7XX and '8XX, but only in one colour (usually whatever Sony's 'default' colour is (like silver :-( )). Perhaps it's way too early for us to be thinking about the D-NE30 and D-NE930 if those are to be the flagship and 2nd-place models of 2006? When does the North American market usually get these flagship models? Spring?

I don't know much about hoe they do this stuff now, as the last Sony stuff I paid close attention to was when they came out with the D-EJ01, D-EJ915, D-EJ815, D-EJ715, and D-EJ615 (all were given slightly different model numbers in Japan) in autumn, 1999 in the US. The last Sony CD player I was interested in getting was perhaps the flagship model from 2000 (the one right after D-EJ01, perhaos D-EJ1000 was the one?) I briefly looked at the D-CJ500 (I think that was the 100-USD blue MP3-CD player that Sony has out in 2002 (_not- that crap D-CJ01!)), but dismissed it in favour of iRiver stuff from late 2002 to the current day.

Sony has a long way to go to get back into the game they should be leading: portable audio. They'r enot leading it anymore thanks to their crap DRM policies (not to mention rootkit problems) of the early 2000s.

Slightly OT, but I think if marketed properly (and that means getting subsidy w/ carriers), the new Walkman Phones have that ability to bring Sony and Walkman brand back into the competition. At least, that's my thinking after couple of hours playing around with the Walkman Phone (w800i).

Isn't the Walkman phone a niche product?

It might be. But again, it is one of very few music/cameraphone that gets everything right (ATRAC thing aside). For many who has 0 tracks encoded w/ ATRAC (the majority), this phone will make a good replacement for the iPod and such, if properly marketed and priced.

Did you typo that 800-series model? Shouldn't it be D-NE830? I wouldn't expect that the D-NE830, '730, and '330 were all they are releasing for the year.

Sorry Adam for not responding .

E730 is released in India Not E830 :o Sorry for that I have some confusion in my mind with that E820

Yuck! I thought that the Japanese models were the only models these deivces were available in and that what's exported is usually a choice between the colours or the 'default' colour. Those shades of green look terrible on them players. YUCK, YUCK, YUCK!

Yes I agrre that This fluorescent green looks really bad on this walkman .I don`t understand why they have released such a Horrible Colour here . Dark Blue would have been better instead of this Green.

So, now that we are well into June and there is still no "D-NE30" or "D-NE930", is there any hope left that Sony will produce a high-end portable CD player? I know that Sony is phasing out unprofitable (or not-very-profitable) lines. With the world going to flash and HD players, I find it hard to believe these pricey CD players are selling too well. Anyone hear any rumors about an upcoming device??? Does any other manufacturer make a comparable PCDP?

Sony Ericsson Walkman Phone is actually quite successful in my country, and i believe in other South East Asia's as well. Walkman Phone actually help to improve Sony Ericsson market share quite a bit.

It is a surprise to me when i found out that Sony Ericsson did not support atrac codec at all.

There are still several CD Walkman models available on SonyStyle.com as of October 2008:

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores...3&langId=-1

They are:

D-NF340-high end model with MP3 playback and remote

D-FJ041 -radio equipped model

D-EJ017CK- similar to EJ011 but with accessories for in-car use

D-EJ011 - entry level model, less than $50, does not play mp3 discs.

All of the above were introduced in 2006.

None support ATRAC playback.
