Guest Stuge
Since i`m sure you must have got your Connect updated & you are still having problems with it .Alternative software that you can use is SonicStage ver3.4 (but then you cannot use Artist Link ,Intelligent Shuffle etc )
JSP62
What are you computer specs? I've always heard stories of Connect and it's problems. Thankful for me I never utilized that function.

Guest Stuge
first of all upgrade your Service pack 1 to Sp2 ..
mgillespie
I had a similar problem. I formatted the device, started again. Used connect to create the initial database, then SonicStage to transfer all my music.Connect took about 8 minutes to start for me, and was pretty much useless. SonicStage works, but I lose most of the features of the device, which is outragous.Sony don't seem in any particular rush to fix these problems.. alfablue
The latest version of Connect functions okay (but slowly) so I am sticking with it for now. Mine takes about 5 minutes to start up too. I have it all set up as I wish and apart from the speed I prefer it tpo Sonic Satge because of the dedicated functions. Yes, its rubbish waiting so long for startup, but I have just got used to it and go get some coffee while I'm waiting. I am still hopeful there will be a proper fix in an update sometime soon(er or later). If the speed issue were fixed I would be reasonably satisfied with it (and if there was built-in podcast subscription, even more so).Now the latest version actually does what it is supposed to (after a fashion) I am presuming Sony think they have the fire under control and will probably not issue updates until there is a major - and stable - improvement. Frequent incremental updates without enough time in beta testing could get them and us in hot water all over again, so it's best to wait a bit until there is a genuine improvement. Just my guess, anyway. Edited March 10, 2006 by alfablue

mgillespie
Sony sucks in software (they always did)No way !!!! i'll never pollute my cpu with SP2 !!Have to agree, mostly. The NW-A series software, at best (SonicStage) is adequete, and at worst (Connect) un-usable. My Vaio FS series has a horrendous assortment of disjointed applications, selected not for my needs, but for licencing tie-ins.The ONLY Sony software division that is any good, is Sony Media Software (AKA Madison Media Software), the did the Sony PSP Media Manager, a excellent piece of software, along with Vegas and DVDArchitecht.I wish Sony would ditch their entire software development teams in Japan, and get Sony Meida Software to sort out these never ending problems....
