So either they have to be files on the disc or recorded Hi Md direct to the unit to transfer is that correct?

yes , record in HiMD mode , it wont matter if it is HiLP , HiSP , or PCM , but it must be in HiMD mode, then when you import it will come in as WAV to the Mac , you set that in the unit "Disc Mode " and format the standard md to HiMD mode you get more storage it goes from 140mb to 300 by reformatting cool huh!

HiLP gives me 9 hours on a standard MD so internet radio , stuff like that , so I have all day jams to carry around , and it feels like I am listening to the radio instead of a recording , commercials and all .

Wait a minute--I don't understand this. Shouldn't mp3 files be just plain data that transfers using the HiMD as a USB drive?

nope , to get mp3 onto the MD and have it playable it has to go thru MD Transfer , , you can store tham as Data , but they will not be in the registry that the RH1 will look in. If you transfer them TO the RH1 or whatever HiMD your using , thru MD Transfer , then the will play , but you will not be able to bring them back thru MD>Mac
