Click this link for the 2nd generation Hi-MD hack. It applies equally to the RH10 and RH910 (on European models), and you get a full equaliser too. The output will, at best, be 5mW per channel - there's no hack that gives 10mW per channel for any Sony MD unit. You could try using some more sensitive earphones (eg. Sennheiser CX300) if that still isn't loud enough..

Looks like Sony messed up the firmware for the RH10/910. I didn't realise that about the title editing problem, as I do all my editing in Sonicstage. You could always switch the destination code back to the original setting (probably A0 for a Euro model) if you need titling on the unit. It's worth doing the hack anyway for the other features you enable - pitch control, equaliser and the volume increase, but in the end it's up to you.

Hey dude, about the volume/EQ hack, you forgot it also works on the RH710, I hacked two of them that I own. That I did as first order of business when I got them on eBay out of Europe (both units came from the UK).

If you need to volume-hack your European RH910 AND keep the titling function, you may set address 0113 to 20 (US), which removes the volume limitation and keeps the English titling function, or to 23 (Japan), which also removes the volume limitation, and gives the capability to title in both English and Katakana.

Yes, the US hack will give you an EQ as well as full volume, I did my two RH710s with the US specs hack and got both a full EQ and a full 5 mW of volume..

Why would you need a remote with a unit with such a great display and controls?

It spoils an otherwise great package and saves dropping the device on the floor when you are out and about it you can find and change the tracks without removing it from your pocket.
