Hello everyone, I don't currently yet own a minidisc machine, and since the MZ-RH1 which I really want is too out of my price range for what money I hav eat the moment, I was wondering if the new software such as 4.2 would work with any of the old players which are still available new from Amazon and Ebay. If it is compatible, would I be able to upload from an MD to my PC like the new HI-MD units? Or am I better off getting an R37 and just using one of those home CD to MD units to make my disc?Any and all comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

SS 4.2 and 4.3 will work with NetMD units, though you'll probably also have to install NetMD drivers (available here in the downloads section I think). You can't upload from a Net MD unit however, only the RH1 can upload non Hi-MD recordings. These days I only use my NetMD recorders for playing and the occasional LP2 transfer, leaving the RH1 for transfers to PC. It works quite well for me..

All required drivers (updated versions) for NetMD are already included with SonicStage 4.3/4.2.

But if you want to make full-quality SP discs, you'll need to record them via optical-in or on a CD to MD unit, since SonicStage can not download full-quality SP.

Thanks guys for your comments. So it seems to make the highest quality standard minidisc I'll either require a stand alone CD to MD machine, or to buy an RH1 or the like. And either way, the cost of a stand alone unit plus a standard portable is about the same as a HI-MD machine anyway. Crap, I dont' have that sort of money to throw around right now. Oh well, someday then I guess. *grumble grumble grumble* :cray:

Actually you should be able to get a HiMD machine that is for download (no mike) for around $100, brand new, from several sources. I don't think it's right to post that information here but you can easily look on ebay and also on the web. I know, I just ordered one.

Also any portable from before NetMD should have an optical input which you can hook to the optical output of a CD player or a sound card. The MZ-R90 or R91 for example. This will allow you to get "highest quality standard" without a computer, quite nicely.

The better HiMD models all have an optical input as well as USB.

the NH600 (as opposed to the NH600D) does also have optical/line input. This means that all you need for microphone is a some kind of mic preamp, which is not necessarily absurd. Beware, it seems there is one being sold every few days on Ebay where the guy shows 2 different pictures. The ad claims 600 but in fact some pictures show 600D. I messaged him, no response, end of my dealings with that enterprise.

Hey guys, I just found on Ebay a lightly used RH-910 with a buy it now price of around $260 US with ear buds, headphones, two mics, AC adapter, and the books for it. It also comes with a AA external pack for it. Is the 910 any good? Should I buy it? I really want something good to take on my European holiday this summer. As usual, any and all comments are welcome and appreciated.

One mor ething guys, I really am more interested in putting CDs on minidisc, be they standard or HI-MD. Should I just use that MD burner program I've heard about? Thanks guys.

The MZ-RH910 is an absolutely great unit! With the most convenient controls and a big 5-line non-burning-out liquid crystal display. I was lucky enough to get one in perfect condition and with a complete set of standard accessories for just $170 last summer. $260 is a great price for the unit with the addition of headphones and two mics.

As for the program - MD Simple Burner transfers faster than SonicStage, but provides less available bitrates - only 48 kbit/s, 64 kbit/s (Hi-LP), and 256 kbit/s (Hi-SP) and PCM for Hi-MD, and 66 kbit/s (LP4) and 132 kbit/s (LP2) for MD. On the other hand, SonicStage also provides 66 kbit/s, 105 kbit/s, 132 kbit/s, 192 kbit/s and 352 kbit/s for Hi-MD.
