I'm recording a classical music concert.

I have a Sony Mz-Rh1, and a Ecm-ds70p electret condenser mic.

But why does the mic sens have to be set at LOW?

Shouldn't the mic sens be at HIGH if classicial music hall is without an amplifier?

What settings do you suggest I use to make a good undistorted recording?

Or am I gonna need another microphone or something?

It depends on How good you want that recording to be , the 70 isnt a concert mic , it is an Idea Mic , for Catching Ideas at Close range , like sitting down with your guitar , or A lecture etc .

The Frequency response , and Sensitivity of the Mic will be the determining factors in the quality of recording .

I Have a lot of mics , and each has their own Character , There are mics I will use for a Loud situation like am Amplified Concert , or for a Classical Un-amplified concert I wont use anything but my Audio Technica AT-822 with my RH1 .......

But then I was an Audio Engineer in a former life . (Still record people , just not as a Main job )

If your arent trying to Stealth your recordings , and they are Open and Legitimate ( done with permission ) you may wish to invest in a Much nicer mic than the 70 , you wont regret it . I know that spending 250 dollars on a mic ( or more ) is a scary thing for some people , but if your going to do a fair amount of recording , then get the best sound you can .

I used my AT-822 the other night with a pro Tape deck that has a nice limiter in it to record a Marvelous thunderstorm the other night . And now that I have that When ever I get to make my OWN CD , I will have self captured samples , Of REALLY good recordings of Nature , Seashores , Thunder , Trains , People Places , whatever , to work into my own recording .

Or just to capture for your own enjoyment . A nice mic is a JOY , and well worth the extra money .

PM me with your email address , and I can send you a sample of a Baroque Concert , done with the RH1 and the AT-822 ,
