On Wednesday, 2006 March 29, a total eclipse of the Sun will be visible from within a narrow corridor which traverses half the Earth. The path of the Moon's umbral shadow begins in Brazil and extends across the Atlantic, northern Africa, and central Asia where it ends at sunset in western Mongolia. A partial eclipse will be seen within the much broader path of the Moon's penumbral shadow, which includes the northern two thirds of Africa, Europe, and central Asia.

Hi Razor,

I`m sure that you must have enjoyed a lot .I was able to see the partial Eclipse from here using Special filter provide to us by Planeturium..(I got them for around $2 whole kit).I havwe about three- four filters..

You saw Solar Eclipse using X-Ray films ..do you know it`s dangerous to see the solar eclipe with these things .You are lucky that nothing happened to your eyes .

Most safest option is to see Solar Eclipse is using Pin hole camera (projection of Sun)..

One & only Total Solar Eclipse that i saw was in October 1995(Just next day of Diwali).I went with my Mom near Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary with a group of other ameatur Astronomers ..Trip was organised by Nehru

Planetarium (Planetarium in Delhi)..It`s was really amazing when it become so cold at the time of total eclipse & Birds started to fly to their nests (they were confused  ).

I`m Amature Astronomer too but now i`m too busy .

Since Partial Solar Eclipse are quite common so i have seen a few of them from Delhi..

Thanks for the warnings stuge, i will obey...

2006 total eclipse is my second eclipse. the first was in 1999 which i dont remember that it is partial or total. in 1999 when the eclipse is formed, everything have been reflected their shadow on the ground like half-sun. İt was very interesting for me too...

and i cant understand.. are you A MATURE astronomer or an AMATEUR astronomer?? it is very nice to know that you are interested in this area..

now i can ask lots of questions about the sky and the space..

Spelling of this word has confused me lot a ..I`m just a AMATEUR astronomer..I was once a member of Planeturium but now i have left it b`coz it`s rather time consuming .Also I have a Telescope(reflector one) ..

Most of our planets can be seen through it ..Jupiter & Saturn looks the best ..

In 1999 it was Total Solar Eclipse in Turkey .Just after few days of Eclipse a big Earthquake came there(So many astrologers relate Eclipses with Earthquakes but i don`t believe in such things ) .

Some more information:

Next Show =will be an annular one in Sept 22,2006 visible in S.America ,West Africa & Antartica.

India -(Total One ) We be on 22,July 2009 -that`s when the sun will be totally obscured for 6.39min,the longest duration of totality in 21th Century ..

So i`m not gonna miss this at all

Also north American People can only see Total Solar Eclipse in Aug 21,2017

Some fact`s about Solar Eclipse added on the first page .

I want to buy a telescope so much... what kind of a telescope do you recommend? and how much will it gonna cost??

and how much do you see the jupiter and saturn with your telescope??

Sorrry Razor, I couldn`t anwer to your query yesterday ..As i was tooo tired ..

Nice to hear that you are aslo interested in Astronomy . :D

It basically depends what you want to gaze in tyhe sky ..like my telescope is a general one with 3.5"dia reflector glass.Glasses & Lens of telescopes are very costly .

Mine was built by me with the help of other senior Astronomers ..So mine was for about $200..

There some companies who also make Telescopes locally ..Telescope which use carl Zeiss lenses are very costly .I have few Carl Zeiss lens which i got from abroad..

I will recommed you to contact nearest planeturium .So that you can get more info about telescope & all that .

But buy a good telescope which will alow you to fit all types of Lenses like solar lens ,lunar etc & also camera.

Higher the magification doesn`t mean that telescope is great a all that ,bear this in mind ..

Hey,Jupiter & Saturn are very far so they are still seen as small dots ...buy you can make out the cloud of jupiter & ring of Saturn..Their mooons are also seen depending on the month f the year .

In India I never heard about specific brands ..So i don`t have much info about them ..Also Carl Zeiss Telescopes for young astronomers are not available these days b`coz they have discontinued ..So it wil not be possible to get these & even i will not recommened these to you as cost is very very high & they are not required for us .

I f you want to enjoy beauti of Sky then you should have atleast 50x magnification to 200x ..Higer the magnification costlier will be the telescope .

I thnk right word is not lenses but Glasses they are helpful; in taking photographs of Sun & Moon but they are also very Costly ..

Hey, Did you contact planiturium in this regard ???

Aslo how much are willing to spend ??

I really don`t vist forums & all that of Astronomical Info as People in Delhi Planeturium as very friendly & thry always advise me in the right direction.

But for more knowledge you should visit Nasa as they are the best in this field :)

i can afford up to 250usd by instalments.. =(

and i want to be very near to the planets...

Hey, Razor to is not possible to get planets as close as you see in Nasa `s Photos .As most of them are taken by sattlite ..Big Telescopes with high Resolution ,Magnification etc costing Millions of Dollors then it is possible to see planets big as Moons through Telescope .

In 250 USD you will get a good telescope :)

i searched all over the internet about the planets, sky and telescopes..

i learnt a lot about them and find a telescope which fits my wantings fully... but it is very expensive it is around 2500 euros. MEADE ETX 125 - PE ASTRO

then i found a telescope which is more cheaper.. but it is still expensive for me... it is 310 euros and the model name is MEADE BRESSER LYRA MODEL (70/900)

but this model has a 70mm dia and your telescope has 90mm dia.. i think mine has to be 90mm too.. because 90mm is expressed as the middle segment...

first telescope which i mentioned is 125mm...

after the research i understand that i will never be able to see the pluto neptun uranus by the telecsopes in this price range...

but i could see between mercury and saturn.. indeed i want to see the nearest planets in detail, and the second nearest ones not in detail...

pluto and neptune is my favorite but i cant see them.. maybe a spot...

i wish that the second telescope had a dia which is 90mm.. its magnification is very good 45x 450x.

Yeah Magnification of second one looks good ..Are these REFLECTOR or REFRACTOR???Go for reflector one they are cheaper than Refractor .Mine is also reflector one

gateway_reflector.jpg

that`s why i asked you to join some planeturim nearest to your house or in your city .that will solve much of your problem .
