Hi,

I have a Sharp IM-DR420H minidisk recorder that I bought about 5 years ago. I lost the BeatJam software that came with it a while ago and need to figure out how to get my audio recordings (treasured family interviews) off the minidisks and onto a CD. Would be willing to buy BeatJam again but have heard that this model is from Japan (didn't know that when I bought it) and the software may not work properly on my PC. (I'm in the States.) Help please!!! Any advice out there?

Probably your best bet is to find someone with an RH1 to upload them for you.

Failing that get an MDLP deck with optical out

Failing that use Line out to play them back into your computer.

I don't like the last method, introduces bad things back into perfectly good digital sound. But it may be adequate for your purposes.

Ok, I have no idea what any of that meant but I will get a technophile friend to help me. Thank you!!!

You cannot upload from this machine, even with software. You can take option 3, but it is not likely to be that reliable and you lose the nice digital sound you presumably had.

Maybe you can find some kind person with an RH1 or a deck to do this for you. I'm in Canada which might seem a bit far away, although the risk of the disk getting messed in the mail is not so bad.
