1kyle
Hi guysI used to love going to the cinema but these days I find the Sound Mixing is all wrong -- The special effects and music always seem FAR TOO LOUD and when there is any dialog it is very difficult to hear it properly.Older films don't have this problem. Is this just me (going deaf) or has the whole art of proper mixing and sound recording been lost in just trying to generate loud noises (for the IPOD generation).Any sound Engineers on this board -- am I right, or is the Studio telling you guys how to do your jobs.BTW Happy Xmas and New year (and of course "mini-discing".Cheers-K
Hungerdunger
I agree with you completely, but then I'm getting on a bit (in my 50s) so maybe it's an age thing.I already take my Etymotic ER20 ear plugs to music concerts, and I'm thinking of trying them on my next visit to the cinema - maybe they will help balance out the sound. bobt
I believe the problem to be indiscriminate use of compression, to make the soft sounds louder, and the loud sounds softer. in cheapo equipment it adds a bit of punch, but on good equipment it shites the sound too much. I too have noticed it on a lot of the DVD's i play, some have great range and listeneable volume, others, you have to jack the volume up, and still all you hear is jumble, frustrating to say the least.Bob
