It's been a while since we have seen any new players from Sony. Now they have officially launched a new line of DAPs called the CE-P Series. The styling is weirdly similar to the Sony Ericsson W550i mobile phone.

The device has a 1.5'' 260 000 colour OLED display and has support for MP3/WMA playback Other features include a built-in FM tuner, FM recording, voice recording and BMP/JPEG display. The player's dimensions measure 45.5 by 75.5 mm. On the terribly annoying product page, you can also make out that the device has an integrated clock, which Sony seems to be real proud of. Wohoo!

There are going to be three different models of the Sony CE-P:

* CE-P17: 1GB, black and gold colour, RMB1199 (approx US$150)

* CE-P15: 512MB, black, silver and red colour, RMB999 (approx US$125)

* CE-P13: 256MB, black, silver and red colour, RMB799 (approx US$100)

It's a shame that Sony is not producing the player in a higher capacity, seeing that there is not really that much demand for players with so little memory nowadays.

Does anyone have any other info?

Interesting find Kamil.

Another set of flash players after the March announcement.

The handle projection on the bottom makes the unit bigger than it needs to be.

Why release in such small memory sizes? These days you would expect the minimum to be 1GB.

Wonder if the file transfer is drag and drop. Can't see any mention of SonicStage.

The product page has a walkman logo, maybe they haven't had time to add that to their mockups.

I render these players as useless and consumer failures for THESE reasons:

1. Non removable battery

2. Less than impressive battery life (18? Thats pulling an ipod)

3. Most likely no 5band EQ for mp3s

4. No scroll wheel or jog wheel for REAL quick navigation, buttons are a drag

5. 1gb capacity sucks

6. $150 for 1gb is lame.

7. Proprietary software to upload music, again pulling an ipod.

I could forgive sony for #3 if it had a good treble boost preset and #7 if S.S. was as easy, quick and organized as itunes, but the rest are unacceptable. Sony claims that 1gb holds a "LOT" of music. Oh yeah? Well, navigation SUCKS when you put buttons on them.

Sony does a lot of things right, used to do everything right years back, lately sonys been doing more WRONG than right with the dap market.

Anyway, im still waiting for a NW-HD5 successor with scroll wheel and 5band EQ for mp3s. The rest of its features were PERFECT.
