Guest Gray Rider
Why is there a Hi def version of DVDs, both sound and vision while there isn't one for music (just sound)? I think sony should definitely make a HD minidisc device. They sound better than DAPs.
sinus
HD audio exists : SACD, DVDA, Blu-Spec CD.Not portable unfortunately..wav or lossless compressed on a quality DAP is the best option. The best possible on MiniDisc is .wav on Hi-MD.but blu-spec CD has no higher def than normal CDs. right? sinus
I stand corrected. Indeed. Supposedly only more reliable than normal CD's.Yeah, just another HQCD or SHM-CD.
ozpeter
Given that a major study found that audio "better" than 16 bits, 44.1kHz cannot be distinguished from standard CDs in properly conducted blind listening tests by a large sample of people tested over the course of a year, what's the point in having hi def minidisc? I think sony should definitely make a HD minidisc device. They sound better than DAPs.There are several non Hi-MD units that sound just like Hi-MD, IMO.1) I'm all for high-definition sound (24bit/96KHz, etc)2) I think that any new optical disc format for a portable recorder has no chance now3) Sony has let loose some high-definition recorders you probably know about4) unfortunately not all the useful MD features are replicated, nor is the size smaller5) fortunately they seem to do what they do pretty well, including offer higher-powered headphone outputs to drive most higher-impedance full-size headphones well (yay)
